my fav is david cook. There’s something unique about that guy with the long air too (forgot his name though). AND YeS I hope kristy lee goes tonight.

Don’t worry folks. Kristy Lee will not be around all that long.

This season the originality of some of these guys is so arresting. I think Michael Johns’ (I’m another fan) big mistake is that he peaked in the Welcome to Hollywood performances and hasn’t shown the same originality since. I thought David A. would take it all - but he needs to be original every time (as with his Imagine) and he hasn’t been. David C. keeps taking those chances, and Jason is wonderful when he does, too. It’s a great season.

I’m not in the closet but I only discovered AI one season ago. I DVR Dancing/AI/Top Chef/Project Runway and then I can “have it all.”

You folks without DVR/TIVO - it is so great. One of our few remaining splurges while we pay those lovely tuition bills. But, heck, we never go anywhere :o.

I too, am a closet AI fan. I do like David Cook but actually didn’t go for last nites song…I just didn’t get it. Last night Syesha was terrific, David A. was very very good and as always, I have a soft spot for Jason Castro’s style. I agree about Brooke, she seems to be feeling the strain of stardom. As much as I like Carly’s voice, I find that I have to listen to her with my eyes closed. I cannot get past those colorful arms (a total gross out in IMO) and she always looks either angry or like she is shouting when she sings. If she wants to stay on the competition, she really should wear only 3/4 length sleeves onstage and tone down her facial expressions and amplitude.

Am watching the results show RIGHT NOW!

I have to say, I think David Cook is amazing. Totally different than any other contestant, this year or in past years. I hope he wins - unfortunately I don’t think he will - but even so I think he will be a star, like Daughtry. I also loved the Billie Jean cover - but my favorite was when he did the cover of “Hello” by Lionel Ritchie - I think it was the week before Billie Jean. Definitely my favorite. Anyone remember that one?

OH I hope Christy Lee Cook goes home…fingers crossed

Yes, “Hello” was really good. He does a really good job making sure he can put his own spin on things. It doesn’t matter that they are other people’s arrangements, especially considering that all the songs have already been done by others.

I am a sucker for a good rendition of “Hallelujah,” and Jason’s was a favorite.

And, I also thought that Chikeze’s version of Paul McCartney’s “She’s a Woman” was amazing! I miss him!

Halleluja was also good. Someone mentioned above how much better the guys were than the girls this year, I totally agree.

Yea, they kicked off the right one this week. She did get better as the competition progressed, but the others are better than she is. Must be tough to be so good & have to get kicked off … but that’s show biz.

I agree - right choice

Darn it. I need to go turn on the TV and find out which girl was kicked. Please be Kristy! Oh, yes DVR is the best thing ever created for television viewers. It’s become such a habit to click right through those commercials I have found myself trying to click through radio ads or wanting to play back something on the radio. Kind of sad ;)

I kept going back and forth between AI and the debate. It didn’t seem as if anyone was surprised to see Kristy go. My bet is she will have some sort of performing future, just not sure doing what specifically.

justamom - why don’t you think David Cook can win?

I psyched my daughter out - She is in a study group tonight and asked me to text her with who was eliminated. I just sent ‘Cook’ and she thought her favorite David was out. He he. Then she called me a rude name via text. Teenagers today - no respect ;)

Somewhere in Paula’s contract must be a “You Have to Ask Paula Questions” clause. How on earth could there be any other reason for Ryan to say “What do you think, Paula?” I actually hope she IS on something, otherwise she’s just a dimwit.

DD and I compare notes via AIM after each show. We’re rooting for David Cook.

As much as I personally like David Cook and think he’ll be a star, I’m gonna bet on David A to win it. He’s a bit one dimensional, but I think he has a truly beautiful voice and a charm that’ll give him the all important teenage girl vote. Some of his earlier (unfortunately) songs gave me chills.

I don’t like any of the girls. As a matter of fact, I think 3 girls from last season blow away this group…Jordan Sparks, and even moreso imo, Lakisha Jones and especially Melinda Doolittle, who I thought was amazing, far and away the best from last year (Blake Lewis?..geez). Actually I’m surprised we haven’t heard from those 2 (especially Melinda).

^^I think she is just a dimwit.

David A. has a teeny bopper following, but personally I am not convinced he ha the stage presence to be a winner. I think he’ll make it to close to the end, and then get axed like Elliot Yamin (so sweetand sad how he wrote a hello/goodbye to his late mom on his hand tonight…) or Clay Aiken did. I really like Syesha.I don’t tink she’ll make it much farther, but I really like her.

2331, I agree with you about last year’s girls. Melinda Doolittle was such a talented vocalist and, apparently, she is currently working on a cd for release this summer. She should have been the winner last year.

Funny that we had the Broadway discussion earlier, as next week’s mentor is Andrew Lloyd Webber! As so many Idol contestants have gone on to do theatre following AI, it’s only fitting to invite Lord Andrew to participate. :)

I loved Melinda Doolittle too – I can’t recall her singing one bad note – she was consistently wonderful. Unfortunately, I think the focus is more on the performer as pop star material, rather than on pure singing. Am glad to hear she’s releasing a cd.

The worst ever was that guy with the gray hair who mugged like he was doing an impression of John Belushi doing an impression of Joe Cocker on old SNL. How did that happen?

We saw the travelling ‘Rent’ production a few weeks back. One of the leads was a winner of South African Idol, Heinz Winkler - he was really really good. And my 19 year old daughter thought he was hot. If you get a chance to see it do - it was wonderful. One of those shows we walked out grinning and would have sat through it again right then.

swimcatsmom, I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed Rent. We’ve seen it dozens and dozens of times over the years and we saw the tour last month. Heinz is a very good vocalist but his acting leaves a lot to be desired, although he has improved by leaps and bounds since the tour began. We have a couple of friends in the cast and a writer friend knows the actor who plays Mark (who several here on CC know) so we spent a lot of time with them while they were in town. Was Anwar Robinson on as Collins when you saw it? He’s also an AI alumnus.

David Archuletta is a Sanjaya who can actually sing. :)

The voting audience has become a lot of teeny boppers I think, so anyone wanna place a bet on who will win?

Does anyone think that being married cost Michael Johns votes?

I think David A will end up winning, but David C will pull a Chris Daughtry and sell more records and be more successful in the long run…

As far as costing votes - I am wondering whether there is any (perceived or real) backlash against either Michael or Carly because they are not native-born Americans?
