“Anyone watch The Voice Tuesday night? Very entertaining, and all the contestants blew the Idols out of the water.”

mommaj and rom828, I only caught last night’s “Voice” show, but LOVE the format and totally agree about the talent from what I saw on Wednesday night. What makes the format so interesting is that it is a competition between the contestants AND the judges. Let’s start a " The Voice" thread…

Forgettable - solos by Jacob, Lauren
Beyond disappointing - despite what the judges said, I hated Haley’s solo. Took a song that I love and made me diffident.
Best surprise - Scotty, I love what he did with that song (even if he had to be browbeaten into it, lol)
Well done - James and Casey. Actually in both cases, I loved the beginnings more than the total. James was magic with his beginning.

I loved the James/Jacob duet - guess me and the judges are not in sync

The Voice - I am loving this show. Watched the first episode and think the talent is great. The coaches non-picks would have been my non-picks. Just catching up with last night’s show right now… loved loved loved the opening number by the coaches.

It is really hard for me to believe that Jacob is hanging on. If Simon were still a judge, that kid would have been pulverized. He seems to be a sweet kid and I’m sure his mom loves hearing him sing. But he can’t sing on pitch! What is the deal, America? For me, dawgs, James and Scotty are the front runners. Scotty has surprised me. I don’t mean for this to sound like damning with faint praise, but his voice is made for contemporary country. I think he’s surprisingly sophisticated as a vocalist for a person of his age. (Same thing for Lauren–but she needs a bit more polish and confidence.)

I’m searching for reasons why Casey got the lowest number of votes: Was it because his jazzy genre attracts the fewest fans? Was it his “look”? Did voters assume he was safe and vote for someone else?

I thought the save he got from the judges a few weeks ago sent a strong message to the voters that the judges wanted him to stick around but, obviously, that alone doesn’t work if voters don’t vote for him. I thought it was really unfair for JLo, who in only her SECOND “criticism” since the top 13, her first criticism being toward Scotty last week and now this week about Casey’s stiff legs. When there has been such a lack of any differentiation amongst the judges week to week (with the exeption of Randy last night saying that James could be the winner), the bottom vote-getter can practically be anyone. After all, who else besides Casey really had any negative comments from the judges?

I think it’s both of the first two. Could be your #3, but I think the first two.

Too too bad. He was such a talent. And I agree with rom828 - it’s not that he’s gone (I didn’t think he’d win it all), but that Haley and Jacob are still there after he’s gone.

May he have a dynamite career despite this, as others before him have done.

and may I add as an aside:down on my knees with thanks for the DVR. I recorded this and watched it an hour later, fast fwding through about 90% of it. Was this the worst results show ever?

I thought Casey did an admirable job playing the audience and interacting with the musicians on stage. But I didn’t care for his song choice. I guess enough voters in America didn’t either. I agree with Jimmy Iovine–enough with the growling!

But I didn’t think he’d be gone…maybe he should have kept trimming his beard and getting his hair cut. Just saying…James has been toning down his spiky hair…

Well, I guess our favorites are safe for another 2 weeks until Jacob and Haley are sent home packing.

OR…will our two finalists be Jacob and Haley…NIGHTMARE!

Why does everybody seem to hate Haley so much? She’s been one of the only finalists who have stayed on-pitch and in-tune, all the while actually looking like she is enjoying herself with every performance. Or are people basing their opinions on what the judges say? Even back in the top 13, I could definitely see the talent and potential.

On the other hand, while Casey is a fantastic musician, he was not right for this show. His singing voice was actually a little weak, which he covered up by scatting, growling and distracting the audience with many people on stage. I’m not entirely sure the jazz market is current enough for him to have a chance at a record deal. That said, he had one of the best sing-outs ever. The last line that he sang to Haley was adorable.

Wasn’t that terrific? The whole thing showed Casey’s engaging personality and sense of humor and musicality – wish all the “losers” went out with such style.

Gotta love Casey! I didn’t like every song he sang or his growls, but I always was curious to see what he would do. How much fun was he last night!

As for Haley - and this may sound crazy - I don’t think her voice matches up with her wholesome face and big smile. She doesn’t look like someone who should sound like that. That voice coming out of a beautiful, sultry woman would be awesome, but she looks like she is trying to be sexy and it just doesn’t quite fit. I think she is beautiful, but not in that smokey, jazzy kind of way. When they talk about she hasn’t found herself - I disagree. I think she knows herself musically. I think she has performed pretty darn well - I think the disconnect is appearance and voice.
