American Idol New Season

We have watched AI since the beginning and have been to see the show taped a couple of times, but I have to say that this year’s contestants are not doing it for me.

Casey is the only one I look forward to hearing what he will come up with each week. James is starting to grow on me, but I don’t really like Paul. Stephano has a great voice, but I don’t think he really has the mass appeal.

I can’t believe that out of all the people who auditioned these are the girls they came up with. Pia can sing, but she is so boring and I agree very pageanty. Thia can sing also, but chooses songs that do nothing for her and she doesn’t have a great stage presence. Lauren just bugs the heck out of me. I know she can sing but she seems really obnoxious when they talk to her. The rest of the girls can just go home.

I am really a bah humbug about AI this year!

I’m also on the James and Casey Train, followed closely by Lauren and Jacob. I hope Haley sticks around (she’s already in the bottom 3 as I type) because I think she could do something with that voice other than covers. Sorry Naima … your pitchiness is pitchy even to my untrained ears.

The opening number of the results show tonight was a train wreck!

The voters and the judges (namely Randy and Steven) got it right by sending Karen home. Even when you read this entire thread, very few, if anyone, has been “singing” her praises. As far as there being any suspense during the results shows to date, it doesn’t really matter… we all know who the voters are NOT voting for. The next couple of weeks will also NOT have any suspense. Naima and Haley are probably the next to go…

I thought that either Naima and Haley would have been the one to go THIS time…

Well, Dancing with the Stars starts on Monday…

I am actually enjoying Idol a lot more this year - not missing Simon like I thought I would. The judges did a much better job picking talent. Motown next week should be interesting.

Just two of the reasons that God invented DVR. I don’t know why I even watch the results shows. But I fast forward most of it. Including, this week, the Black Eyed Peas number. Not liking that number clarifies for me that… yes… I am old.

Well I must be old, too, because I had never even heard that song that Casey sang. Couldn’t understand a word he said, either. Hope I’m not too old for Motown week. Wonder what the country kids will sing? could be interesting.

Ditto on fast forwarding through the Black Eyed Peas number, but I was fascinated by those overall straps hanging down by their knees.

Sorry to see Karen go … she was adorable when she sang but I knew she didn’t really have the staying power. I’m hopeful that Naima finds her pitch and that Haley defines more clearly who she is, because I don’t want Paul-crazy-dancer to stay any longer.

Abasket, my fav is Stephano too. Followed by Casey.

Let’s shorten this year’s Idol season. Keep Stefano and Casey (curious to see what he’s going to come up with each week) and send the rest home now–including James and Jacob. James reminds me of screamy Adam Lambert (didn’t like him either) and Jacob should stick with gospel (IMO–he’s not an American idol pop star). Scotty will have a future in country music (old school type country).

What? Nobody’s talking about MoTown night?

I need my play-by-play analysis as I watch.

Oh dear, Scotty is making Motown sounds like country.

Pia… channeling Celine Dion… that is not Motown either.

The judges liked these two a lot better than I did.

Motown is my favorite kind of music BUT many performances sure weren’t reminiscent of true Motown.

JLo “stepped” on Randy’s feedback every time it was his turn to make his comments.

The only contestant’s performance that Steven DIDN’T use the word “beautiful” on was James. Does that mean when he REALLY loves a performance he omits this word?

I really missed not having Simon as a judge tonight. The judges were just too “non-judgmental” with all the performances.

Best performance (by a lot): James
Worst performance (by a little): Thia

Nailing it: Casey, James

Amazing performance tonight: Naima, tho I’m not an overall fan of hers
Good job: Paul, but I still wish he’d move away from the Rod Stewart thing

Jacob: moved my mortal soul

bottom for me: Pia, Thia

Unlike past weeks, there didn’t seem to be a cadre destined to be the bottom 3 with their performances this week. Thia, Haley and Naimi really did a great job is upping their games this week.

I was not particularly moved by Stefano or Pia. I know they both have great voices–but Pia needed to move away from the same old ballad (like Thia tried) and Stefano when he sings gets more in contact with himself than me.

When performances are close, being someone’s favorite really counts…

Yes, agreeing with all of you this time.
Pia’s ballad’s are getting to me, but she does know how to look good on stage.
Naima was the most improved … that girl can own a stage.
Lauren was actually just okay tonight … I’m wondering if she goes any deeper than just good singing?
My girl Haley is showing what her voice can do … she had her hair straightened and I think it gave her a new confidence.
Stefano … yes he can hit the notes, but he isn’t a James, Jacob or Casey.
Thia did better tonight, but she’s so young that I’m getting the feeling that her life experience consists of singing competitions because I don’t feel her songs.
Jacob had me tearing up tonight; I know he’s doing something good when my husband wants to rewind and hear it again.
Casey, I’m hoping he stays just because he keeps showing us new layers of talent. Love him.
Paul is who I’m hoping will go. I’m not buying his gig. His vocals get old.
Scotty is starting to get cocky, but I did not like the country mo-town corny thing he did.

My top 3 were Jacob, James, and Naima.
My bottom 3 are Paul, Scotty and Thia, and I hope Paul or Scotty goes.

Its getting interesting now. I’m hot and cold… one week I dont like someone’s performance and the next week, they wow me. Last night was the first time I liked Jacob and while I usually like Haley, she didnt do it for me last night. But despite spotty performances, I always like Paul, wild Rod Stewart thing he is. Naima was super and James was great. Sure glad I’m not the judge!

I thought Jacob was the most improved over last week. Paul’s voice is very annoying - I don’t know why the judges love about him. James is still my overall favorite. Naima was very impressive yesterday. I think Stefano, Pia or Thia should go tonight.
