Thought I’d add more info here for future parents/applicants (I know I have found the details helpful). S25 took all AP classes offered at HS (7) and had very good LORs (we believe). And he showed demonstrated interest (visit in the early fall and communication with Chair of music department).

My daughter was accepted in Early Action
-Submitted a 1430 SAT Superscore (780 E) and 32 ACT single sitting
- 3.90/3.22 GPA with max rigor (14 IB courses plus 7 AP courses as part of IB Diploma program)
-ECs were a strength, President of about 5 or more clubs, founded 2, 1 state level recognition, 1 national level recognition
-demonstrated interest by attending admission counselor presentation at her hs and by also attending AU Winter Open House on campus during junior year
-accepted for CLEG (Communication, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government, and into the Cornerstone program.
-was offered NO merit (and no need based aid other than student loan).
-after silently ruling AU out, on April 27th, she received an email from AU stating “we’ve reviewed your student’s financial aid package and are offering financial support in the form of a Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $20,000 to help make their path to joining American University even more accessible.”
