D24 was admitted with a Dean’s scholarship 18k, Lincoln scholarship program, test optional, visited in-person. Still little expensive, waiting for need based aid.
S24 admitted with a dean’s scholarship, honors program. In-person visits, 3.9 unweighted GPA, 4.2 weighted. 9 APs, 3 honors courses, good extracurriculars including a job.
Daughter got waitlisted. Never visited the school or showed a lot of demonstrated interest. Definitely won’t be accepting a spot on that list but congrats to those who got in.
S24 admitted with Presidential scholarship (20K) 3.8 unweighted 4.5 weighted did not submit test scores. We visited but that is likely the only interest shown. We are from CO which I think helps. Still a little bit pricier than we were hoping and probably not his very top choice but we’ll see as other results come in…
waitlisted as well! 3.82 uw and 4.0 weighted gpa. test optional. first generation. i’m going to include my name on the waitlist. i didn’t show much demonstrated interest, so not totally surprised, but still a bit disappointed. does anyone know the stats of being accepted off of the waitlist?
Accepted with Presidential Scholarship. 3.3 weighted GPA. Extreme upward trend in GPA
Stats from the most recent common data set on the waitlist:
Students offered a place on the list- 9146
Students accepting a place on the list- 2086
Students accepted off of the list- 88
9000 people on a list is ridiculous. They should straight reject. American isn’t even ranked t100 but the political science program seemed pretty decent.
That’s not how a waitlist works. They purposefully offer more people spots than they have because they know a large amount won’t accept a place on the waitlist, and for many that do end up being offered a spot on the waitlist its because of factors such as financial aid since AU is need-aware. Every college does some form of this. For comparison, here’s how some of AU’s peer schools did their waitlist for the same CDS year:
GW- Offered spots to 5k, 2k accepted spot, 1 student admitted
Fordham- Offered spots to 10k, 3k accepted spot, 229 admitted
Emory- Offered spots to 6k, 3k accepted, 107 admitted
Syracuse- Offered spots to 15k, 6k accepted, 1647 admitted
Son got in. No interest shown except for applying. GPA wise all I know is the CA CSU GPA was 3.68. He was awarded $17,900/Fall and $17,900/Spring along with approx $3k/semester in student loans optional as part of aid package.
Accepted. 3.3 UW GPA and 3.6 Weighted GPA. 27 ACT - we knew this wasn’t the greatest test score but felt it was necessary in light of the mediocre GPA. We did make the drive to visit the school in the Fall. Good luck to everyone else. This was our final school which we were awaiting a decision.
Looks like you get in if you show interest no matter gpa
Admitted with $15k Deans
History major. Visited. Demonstrated interest
Large NJ public HS that deflates grades
3.7 UW GPA / 3.9 W
SAT 1380 (740/640)
6 APs
Congrats! Confirming - your son is receiving $35,800 per year in merit? Only trying to understand top merit for this year as their website says $22K per year. Amazing if he got that much!
Thanks for the heads up about the admissions results for American University Class of 2028.
Yay!
Congrats! Do you mind sharing how much you’re getting per year?
I agree that 9000 is a crazy number on the waitlist, but also want to say that the US News ranking is not reflective of this school’s performance as an academic institution with excellent professors, classes and opportunities for high-performing students.
Like many other excellent schools (e.g., Tulane, Wake Forest, Clark) American’s US News ranking fell down significantly on the list after the methodology was changed in 2023.
DD admitted as Lincoln Scholar with Presidential Scholarship of $20k/yr.
Large public high school, 4.0UW/5.25W, 34 ACT, 11 APs (all 5s on the 8 tests taken so far), 4 years Varsity on 2 sports, good ECs
Anyone seen data on what % accepted this year? I know their numbers vary widely y/y
