America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

There was very little talent last night in Portland. My D asked if I was really going to watch AI this season as the people they have put through to Hollywood have not been great.

Thursday’s show from St. Louis was better. The last singer, Lauren Gray, has an exceptional voice and I can’t wait to hear her sing again. Didn’t love her song choice but loved everything about her. I’m not sure the judges will have as hard a time deciding on their top 20 this season. So many going to Hollywood week that don’t deserve to be there.

I forget… do we have a separate thread for The Voice? Or is this the place?

Because, anyway, I feel like we already have “The Voice”… second up to audition… Jesse Campbell. It’s all over for me.

He was AWESOME!

They seemed to like the gravel voiced girl in the jean jacket vest, but I wasn’t thrilled. Maybe I’m missing something, but it sounds as though her voice is going to disappear from wear and tear. Oh well, they liked her a lot.

It fills a hole The Voice likes. This rough on the edges with nose rings follows that awful tattooed bird that weaseled her way into last year’s final. Maybe that was makes this show fresher than the rest.

LOL. I think you’re right, xiggi. I thought she was “not half bad”. Then came Tony Lucca (sp?). He was awesome too. Really awesome. I don’t think he moved my mortal soul the same way Jesse did… but I really liked him.

If these first few auditions are an indicator of the talent level this season… wow… just wow.

I’m looking forward to the next show and what talent that will bring.

Enjoyable show tonight and I really liked Jesse. I know someone who will be on the show this season and can’t wait to see his audition! Very exciting. :)

I liked all of the selected ones on the season premier blind auditions of The Voice, with Jesse and Tony being my two favorites. It’s nice to see such accomplished singers. I also like the “two-way street” concept: judges have to pick the singers AND vice versa.

I like this combined thread of the various singing shows. Maybe an administrator can either combine last years “Is The Voice Your New Vice” (which was mine) or eliminate it altogether so there aren’t posts in two different threads for the same show.

Maybe you can start a new thread, jshain–Is The Voice your Recurring Vice"?

Has Javier Colon done anything musical since he was christened The Voice last year? One of the big complaints about last year contestants was that many were singers who had already had multiple tries in the music biz, but just couldn’t get traction.

Xenia has put out an EP (4 new songs) which I downloaded on iTunes. I liked the songs. She’s one of those singers with an individual voice. I think she’s got a bright future ahead of her.

Reminder: The Voice is on right now. 8:00pm-10:00pm on NBC

I was also wondering what Javier has been up to, ellemenope. Can’t say that I miss Baldy Beverly, however. I thought Lindsey Pavao was fantastic Monday night. She has a really unique tonal quality and style to her voice.

I think Christina has gotten off to a great start this season. I also am enjoying her more “conservative” appearance.

These auditions are much more legitimate than Idol, where even the ones not picked can sing!

Looks like Javier put out an album that was released in November 2011. I previewed some of the songs but wasn’t smitten. He did put out an EP of Christmas songs, which I did download.

He’s got a great voice, but you need great material also…

I’m another person who was wondering what became of Javier. Gorgeous voice. They’ve already got some very good people this season. I was not smitten with the guy who sang backup for Alicia Keyes, although everyone else seemed to love him.

Consolation … yes, agree … the backup singer guy was a little to full of himself and his voice didn’t measure up for me. I think modelling is more his thing. (ouch!)

He was very easy on the eyes…

I thought that the duo was very good, but I’m not sure that I would have picked Christina as a coach. She has done a fabulous job with the female diva type (I am still keeping an eye out for Lilly Elise from last season).

I thought that Blake would have been a good entre into the music biz from their angle. But if there is one thing that last season showed, Blake is less swayed by the kind of music one does–but is very taken with young female voices that he can father. This duo doesn’t fit that dynamic.

I wasn’t impressed with the backup singer’s voice. I wouldn’t have turned my chair for him.

Is he the one who sang “Complicated”? Not only did I not care for his voice, I also thought that was a horrible song choice (not a “singer’s” song, which is why Avril Lavigne picked it). But of course just as we don’t know how the contestants are selected in the first place, we don’t know how much coaching and prep goes into their auditions. Maybe he was advised/urged/forced to sing that song. I’d love to know more about how this show works behind the scenes, especially how much time and effort the coaches actually put into their teams and whether it matters a whit which one a singer chooses.
