America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

I agree that Reed is mad talented, but as an American Idol contestant, he just wasn’t right. I hope to see more of him, minus the schmultz.

Deandre seems so young … I hope he gets some coaching to help with the hair flipping and the too-much-falsetto. He overuses it and it no longer is nice. I still think something is messed up with the sound over cable TV because the falsetto only sounds good on a few notes to my ears.

I can’t wait to see that little powerhouse Sanchez … hopefully her voice heals more and she continues to wow us.

I didn’t hear the story behind it, but have to wonder what the chance is of the girl with the vocal problems having a sustainable singing career. If she can’t even get through week 1…

motherbear, it’s going to be a concern for a few of those girls. It was clear in some of the performances that they do not know how to sing without causing damage. I hope they have someone there who is advising them accordingly.

I would have rather seen more of the boys go through as I wasn’t particularly enamored with many of the girls. But I must say that I was absolutely shocked that the voters didn’t put Eben through. Perhaps the teenybopper girls were elsewhere during voting… Shocked, but very happy. Don’t need a new Justin Beiber wannabe with the hair…

^^^ and besides, (I thought) Eben was TERRIBLE. Just awful.

I’m still trying to fugure out how they picked Eben over David Leathers Jr. aka “Ladies Man”. Granted, he had a horrible “Hollywood 5” group performance but at least he was a solid performer and fun to watch. I think he would have gotten lots of votes.

Agree with this! It’s OK to have Michael Bolton hair, but to flip it all the time is annoying to the max. The only wild card I liked was Erika. But I knew the guy who made Jennifer Lopez cry was going to get in…how could she not put him through?

But I did like the Top 10 voted in (I don’t vote in American Idol). I guess I like Skylar because I like Reba…BTW, Reba was featured on Who Do You Think You Are last night. Great show!

Don’t want to spoil it for the west, but I don’t think the one the judges threw under the bus was all that bad. Deandre surprised me, too. Looks like he got the message about the falsetto and the hair.

Tonight I agree that Jessica Sanchez and Phil Phillips were both terrific. I also really liked Hollie and Joshua. I think either Elise or Shannon are in the bottom for the ladies. Among the guys, it is more of a toss-up for me. Possible lowest vote-getters are Jermaine, Heejun, DeAndre, or Joshua. I don’t see Joshua going home Thursday night. He had too strong a performance and, if he is in the bottom, I think the judges will save him.

I’m rooting for Jessica Sanchez to go all the way!

I missed the first 30 minutes, so I missed Portland chick’s performance. Didn’t sound like the judges liked her performance, which is too bad because I have liked her other performances. Whitney songs are probably not her cup of tea, but Skylar (Reba) and Phillip Phillips did a great job of taking songs that weren’t their genre and owning them.

Very gutsy of Jessica to do THAT Whitney song! Glad that she did a really great job of it.

Two of my early faves (Reba and Phillip) looked good enough to get through. Portland Gal doesn’t look that solid, but at this point in the competition, it’s like being chased by a pack of wolves. You only have to be quicker than the slowest of the prey.

On the whole I thought the girls were stronger than the guys last night. A lot of the guys just don’t have strong voices or maybe it was the songs they were singing. I’m not a fan of Jeremy. He needs to stop with the tearing up all the time. I’m not really impressed with Deandre either. He will prob. get the teenage girl vote and be safe though. Heeju surprised me but don’t know how good his chances are. Liked Phillip Phillips just because he’s so different. I felt sorry for Shannon. She seemed to receive the harshest criticism of the night. Like everyone else, thought Jessica,Skylar and Hollie did very well. Hope Elise bounces back.

Jessica was darn good, but there is something about her personality that turns me off - seems a little diva-ish. For me AI is NOT just about singing - it’s SINGING + ENTERTAINMENT FACTOR ON STAGE + PERSONALITY.

I really like Phil Phillips. I ENJOY Heejun so was happy to see him stand on his own last night with a nice, even performance that didn’t rely on much backup. Last night I admit was the first time I listened to Joshua sing - he was good. Not a fan of Jeremy or Jermaine.

I love the tone of Elise and Erika. Elise has no personality - please smile!! Skylar is a doll and love her energy even though I’m not a country fan - she started off slow last night but finished strong.

Jennifer sure put it all out there when she quickly named Shannon as in the bottom but couldn’t seem to come up with another name!

abasket–I was thinking just the opposite of Jessica and how she always seems so surprised when people cheer for her, how she underestimates her talent. I though she started off a little shaky last night but that is NOT an easy song to sing. About half way through she relaxed and nailed it.

Jessica Sanchez is a diva, but with that voice who can blame her? I was touched that she was choked up by the end of her song … she knew she had done well and that many people would now know her name I think.

I feel bad that Shannon didn’t have a great night, however, I don’t think she really has the music in her like Phillip Phillips or Skylar/Reba or Joshua. She comes off as a bit of a pageant girl more than a true performer. Nice girl, just not my version of a star … give her 2 more years. I’m getting mixed up on names, but the girl (Elise?) that went early on whose song was switched had an unbecoming attitude. Her tone is great, but her victim act and response was a definite no-vote getter. She might be at risk. (I did love her dress though.)

I would start going to church if I knew Joshua was going to be singing. I just love his whole attitude, including the Mantasia hand.

Deandre … okay, he did get the message on the hair the the too-much-falsetto, so I give him props for that. I enjoyed his performance, but now he’s got to work on his annunciation so I can understand what he’s saying. He is a performer, so points for that.

My big guy, Jermaine, did okay … I still love his voice, but am not sure how he’ll do overall. He has such a gentleness about him that I hope he gets through. Glad mom wasn’t featured today, even though she’s sweet.

Heejun is funny, and while I like his voice, I’m realizing that he’s not a power house and he doesn’t always hit each note perfectly. He’s got to do at least one or the other to hit my heart. I have to say, he is funny … maybe being a comedian is his real ticket.

Hollie looked gorgeous … her look is starting to match that voice. Nice job.

Jeremy … might be a goner. Sweet kid, nice voice, just doesn’t compare to some of the others.

Girl in the red dress with red streak in her hair … nice job with her song. Great voice. Should be safe. I think she’s starting to believe in herself.

Signing off … judge snowflake.

^^ Exactly part of the success of Idol - we get to BE the judge!

At this point what I usually hope for is that those I like or have the entertainment factor make the top 10 and tour. For instance, Heejun. He’s darling, funny and has a decent voice - certainly not the best! But, he would add a lot to the tour in terms of entertainment value - as opposed to some of them who seem to have little more than a decent voice to hold them up on stage.

I completely agree that Heejun is hysterical and I’d like to see him stick around just for his dry humor. Loved the autographed “gifts” he gave Jimmy and Mary J and how he flirts with J.Lo. Maybe he will someday be known as “The Singing Comedian”.

Jeremy could also be in trouble tonight…

I liked how her song started–you knew it was a Whitney song, but it sounded like a country torch song. But the judges agreed with you.

I think that was a dumb question by Ryan Seacrest and Randy dodged it–Jennifer should have dodged it. Who knows–maybe America will feel sorry for Shannon and throw someone else to the wolves.

You think that the American Idol singers have a good voice, and then you see Mary J. Blige in action…she can spot just what a song needs and where you can go with it. She was amazing. For all her quirks, Christina Aguilera makes me feel the same way. The woman knows her business…

I was thinking the same thing last night. All of them were so much better after she worked with their presentation. She has fabulous instinct, and I have never been a particular fan of hers. I think they should keep her around. Last year sure could have used some of her insight, particularly so early on.

So, Jeremy is gone and Shannon lives to sing another day.

Can someone fill me in on the Elise song problem? I missed the first part of Wednesday’s show.

Elise had originally planned to sing a different Whitney song, but when she shared with with Jimmy and Mary J., they both winced and told her that she needed to find a song that was more in her range (or type?). They suggested another one for her to consider, and she accepted it, but never really believed in it. The problem was, the clip they showed of her singing the 1st song was terrible … she couldn’t hit the notes with ease and it would not have worked.

I’m very surprised Shannon is still around … Jeremy’s voice was so much better, but he would have to have gone at some point. I hope Elise shakes off this week and does better next week.
