America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

In addition to Elise being out of her genre, I thought she also looked awkward performing her song. To me, she looks a lot more comfortable when she is singing from behind her piano. I thought the judges made the right decision in sending Jeremy home and keeping Shannon… for this week.

Jimmy is sure exposing the judge’s deficiencies in evaluating a singer’s performance. He was at odds with them on multiple occasions during his singer recap segments on Thursday night. For me, it sure raises the question as to why have these particular judges if they get it “wrong” so often or don’t really articulate much?

Agree that Heejun should stay around just because he is so entertaining.

I did not like this week’s songs. Felt that Jessica Sanchez was not that great. I guess I really don’t like that song. It is so cliche and really should not even be sung again by anyone else. Just let it rest in peace with Whitney Houston. She was so amazing with it, why would anyone else even want to sing it?

Wonder if all the judges’ negative criticism of Shannon might have helped her win some votes? Voters might have felt sorry for her being singled out like that so gave her the sympathy vote.

Yes surely Shannon got some extra votes for the negative comments - America will do that. But now she ismpretty much in the position to only go up- and if she improves will likely get praise for being “better than last week” and she could survive even longer.

Word is that Jermaine (the tall very deep voice guy) will be kicked off the show tonight because it was discovered that he has criminal issues. From TMZ:

Apparently, the producers began looking into Jermaine’s background more closely when they discovered that he lied about his dad .

Jermaine Jones will be kicked off “American Idol” Wednesday night, after producers learned he concealed the fact that he was arrested twice last years and has outstanding warrants … TMZ has learned.

As we first reported, producers discovered Tuesday that Jermaine had lied about his criminal history and that triggered the decision to confront him on camera Tuesday afternoon.

We’re told one of the incidents involved violence, which was particularly troublesome to producers. He also lied to cops by giving them fake names both times he was arrested.

“A.I.” sources tell us … Jermaine will appear on the show tomorrow night before he is sent packing.

Over the last few days, we’ve been reporting that Jermaine told producers his father abandoned him 10 years ago, but his dad called TMZ and called B.S. on his son, saying they see each other regularly.

Jermaine began tweeting that he never told producers about his dad abandoning him. We’re told the producers — who knew Jermaine had made the statement — became generally suspicious and began looking more closely at his background, and that’s what led to the revelation of his criminal history.

If Jermaine has outstanding warrants he could be headed for jail. That’s probably why he lied to producers. A criminal past won’t keep a contestant off the show, but a criminal situation that is unresolved will.

I will be angry if they actually have him on the show tonight. JUST SHOW THE GUY THE DOOR! Also annoying that AI doesn’t check these things out more thoroughly - this has happened before - more than once! Sad that someone else could have had his spot…

Yeesh! What drama…

Assuming all this is correct (TMZ is ALWAYS a reliable source, right?), it’s sad to think that he filled a spot that could have gone to someone else.

Well I agree with that (re: TMZ) but there are other indications as well - apparently Jermaine posted a couple things on his AI-provided Twitter account in reference to this and then his Twitter account disappeared yesterday…

My favs tonight:

Phillip. Elise. Colton. Skylar

Hoping heejuns peeps vote to keep him in for top 10.

The jermaine thing was awkward, staged and unnecessary. Wonder why they did it.

I suspect they did it to fill the x number of minutes his slot was using. Since he is out, I wonder if anyone will be sent home tomorrow.

I would like to see Joshua’s performance again. That’s only the 2nd one in the history of AI that I have said that about, the first being Fantasia’s “Summertime.”

I’m liking Colton more and more. I think he could sell a lot of records and with the right manager, could have a large following. Personally, I don’t see the other contestants being commercially successful in the music business.

Off on a tangent-------Randy, it’s time to ditch the skinny jeans.

if you guys haven’t seen the vocalist (13 years old) that won “France has Talent” you should check her out… I’m not usually impressed by vocalists, but this girl has more talent than a lot of singers that have 8 figure incomes. Here’s a video (I hope this is ok… if not mods feel free to delete), she’s singing in English: [Marina - Rolling in the deep - YouTube](<a href=“Marina - Rolling in the deep - YouTube”>Marina - Rolling in the deep - YouTube)

My favorites are probably Erika and Joshua. Those are two I would listen to over and over. Erika reminds me of Ann Wilson, of Heart, who is absolutely amazing, with such power and never misses a note. I hope she gets a shot to blow everybody away. I remember it took Kelly Clarkson awhile to really wake everyone up, she kind of came in under the radar.

^If I were placing a bet on who will become “commercially successful”, it would have to be Skylar. Country singers seem to have the easiest road to success of all the genres. I agree with nysmile and think Colton could be successful. I just wish he had a more melodic voice to match his entertaining performances.

I really liked Skylar but absolutely LOVED Joshua on Wednesday night. I totally agree with musicmom1215, and thought he gave one of the best performances on AI… ever! If he doesn’t get a recording deal, he might find his calling on Broadway.

My votes are going to Joshua and Skylar this week.

We really like Colton too. I agree, if you are looking at “marketability” he has it for the pop scene over the rest of them. Skylar will get a country recording contract. She is one of the contestants that is probably better off NOT winning, but making final 4 or even the final 2. We think Skylar and Colton will be the final 2.

Heejun–WHAT were you thinking? That might be the end of him. If people vote just off performance, he will be gone, but I think a lot of people love his humor so that might keep him in the running.

Still not a fan of Phillip. He has a really whiny voice.

Oh, Hollie is a doll. I like her too but I don’t see her winning.

re: AI country singers…heard a Lauren Alana (last year’s AI runner-up) song on the radio yesterday. Can’t say I loved. Seemed like a bad variation of a Carrie Underwood song.
Saw in the newspaper this week that Scotty McCreary is pitching for his h.s. baseball team this spring between concert appearances.

Last night I liked Phillip,Skylar,Joshua,Erika and Hollie.
I think Heejeun has to go.

Last night, I liked Joshua, Erika, Philip and Hollie. I don’t like Skylar’s voice at all. She can’t compare, vocally, to Lauren from last year. And if she continues to belt like she did last night, she is going to have serious vocal trouble. I also find her very annoying, which is neither here nor there but I’d never vote for her. I liked Colton more last night than I have previously, especially the softer parts of the song where you could really hear the beauty in his voice. Personally, I don’t think any of them is likely to be a big star, regardless of in what place they finish.

My favs: JOSHUA (top fav by far), Elise, Phillip.

My should-be-safe-people: Sanchez, Colton, Erika, Hollie

My go homes: Shannon

My should-go-home-but-I-want-him-to-stay: Heejun. I just think he’s adorable and I do like his voice … agree that he should not do any more ballads. Please do something new and different!

Well Shannon’s gone, no real surprise. She just never seemed to rise to or above the initial performance delivered at auditions.
