I don’t see how Josh is the “complete package” for any contemporary music category–except perhaps gospel–but surely the AI machine is not thinking it can make money off a gospel singer. The square, sexless persona might work for a certain country audience, but that’s not his type of music, so I don’t know where he could be successful. Would like to hear from his fans on this.

I’d also like someone to come up with a name for the type of twangy screeching Sklyar engages in–Tweeching? Scranging? Whatever it is, it sets my teeth on edge and hurts my ears. And her hair style drove me nuts–haven’t seen a Farrah Fawcett 'do in decades. What were they thinking?

You just know when Ryan orchestrates the groups like that that the bottom three is going to be the opposite group to that which most people would guess. It’s not that surprising really. The show has always been a popularity contest and some demographics vote more than others. One of the biggest shocks, and most ridiculous eliminations, in AI history was on the stage tonight - Jennifer Hudson.

I was very surprised by the outcome, too. I though she had a youtube following or something like that that I heard in the last 24 hours. If that was true, I think her fans forgot to vote.

Oh well … now we will see someone go each week. I still like Joshua, but I could see how tweens or those younger than me (30 years younger … ha!) would not appreciate him the same. I’m still going to start going to church if he’s singing there.

I think maybe people ASSUMED that Jessica and Joshua would get plenty of votes, so they voted for the other ones. I think some (apparently a lot) voted for Hollie because the judges were so hard on her. The judges were hard on Haley last year after she had been in the bottom several times, and it seemed to make people vote for her more-- she ended up in the top three. I don’t know if the people are voting for the underdog just to spite the judges or because they feel sorry for the contestant for being harshly criticized.

Personally, I have an irrational dislike of Elise. I hope she goes next.

I also don’t care for Elise, but I think that’s rational :)! Made sense for them to save Jessica, but I thought she was lucky they had pre-decided… because to me the little bit of her “save” song that she sang was flat, flat, flat.

Well, I was surprised that Jessica was the one, but not that they saved her.

Her voice is pretty marvelous, but it’s still not my cup of tea. I prefer the more folksy ones that have voices that are different–Elise, Philip, Casey from last year, etc. But I’m still a recovering hippie, so what do you expect!

Loved hearing James Durbin tonight. Glad to see that he is doing well.

Does this mean that next week they will eliminate 2 folks?

Just watched the show on the west coast, and saw who was in the bottom 3, and was also surprised that Joshua and Jessica were two of the lowest vote-getters. Does anyone know off the top of their heads, or read somewhere, if anyone who was saved has actually won? The save is a relatively newer aspect to the show, but I would have to think that Colton would be the favorite now since I don’t believe he has ever been in the bottom 3 while all the others have.

Except for Hollie, the judges gushed over all of the performances Wednesday night. I think when the judges overly praise most everyone, that the results can be more unpredictable.

I would have thought that Jessica and Joshua would have been safe from being eliminated–but maybe people didn’t like her stuttering song. Agree that Jessica’s “save me” song started out really rough–glad the judges put the kabosh on that one.

I made the mistake of clicking on the internet and accidentally seeing that the judges would use their save to save a favorite. I averted my eyes immediately (I do like to be surprised)–I figured that Phillip would need the save…not Jessica.

Well, no one is safe…seems like America has been pretty right on up until tonight’s show. The judges have got to stop trashing Hollie…seems like she’s getting a lot of pity votes.

I think the Jessica thing was staged. She was in on it, she didn’t have any kind of reaction but to smile when they announced she was voted off. She knows full well she is better than Elise. JLo’s over dramatization of the announcement was just a little too fake too. I think this was the how they are making up for the extra week.

If so, I wonder if the Casey save last year was also staged? That goodness that we didn’t have a fake swoon/crying fit this year…makes me like Jessica even more.

jshain, no ‘saved’ person has won. Yet. This is the fourth season that has had the save, with the previous ones being Matt Giraud, Michael Lynche (anyone remember either of them without looking them up?), and last year, Casey. I would not be at all surprised if it was staged. I never trust these reality shows to be entirely honest with how they work, including AI.

^That was the season that Fantasia won. I DO remember Matt Giraud. He was kind of a singer-songwriter on the piano type of performer. Don’t recall Michael Lynche.
