America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

I’m all for Phillip too. Have never been a Jessica fan and have tired of Joshua’s style. I don’t find all that unintelligable yelling entertaining even if the judges do think he is the greatest and have practically annointed him already.

I don’t care for Phil either–he strikes me as a very mediocre bar singer with almost no range and no musicianship. Cuter than Lee DeWyze, but about equal in talent, or lack thereof. On the other hand, I think Jessica needs a few years of vocal training to develop her instrument, and Joshua doesn’t fit anywhere in the contemporary pop world, so I can’t get excited about either of them. Maybe I’m just jaded. I haven’t been excited by anyone on a talent competition in the last few years. Take a look at some of the online lists of best Idol performances–no one has come close to equaling any of them in the last two seasons. It’s been meh and more meh.

Wow, really expected Jessica to go. So happy to see Phillip in the finale. Lisa Marie was…strange for me!

I’m beyond shocked that Joshua went home and not Jessica. I hate to play the race card, but when was the last time a black male won it or even made the final? Got to go way back to season 2 when Ruben Studdard won.

Lisa Marie Presley was horrible. Good thing she has that one bit of “magic” that nobody can take away. Her last name. You would have thought that even being married to Michael Jackson for a short time would have rubbed some showmanship off on her a little bit…

Tempted to think that with Jessica and Phillip in the final… that means Phillip will win it. But then again I didn’t think she’d be in the final, so what do I know? Lisa Marie is a prime example of the reason FFWD buttons were invented, lol. Too painful to watch.

H wants to know how judges reacted when Joshua was voted off. Thought I’d ask here.

We’re at the point where losing any of the three would make the judges feel sad. They are emotionally invested in all three…

Well, color me surprised that Joshua is gone. I thought he’d make the finals for sure.

It seems like Joshua peaked a couple weeks too early (the week of his James Brown song), Phillip is peaking right now (two great performances last night–although Jimmy I only thought he had one), and Jessica hasn’t peaked yet.

Jessica needs “a moment” next week…the perfect song performed in a way that really draws us in. The problem is that when you THINK, “I’ve got to get everyone to feel emotion,” your performance often feels forced. Hollie suffered from this problem. It was when she had the attitude of “I’m singing this song and I’m going to feel what I feel”–that’s when she sang the best.

The contestants can each win it or lose it with song choice and performance. Phillip has had the ability to choose better songs over the length of the competition (or have the luck of having them chosen for him–the songs chosen for him by the judges and Jimmy I were tons better than the song he chose himself). Jessica just can’t quite seem to consistently choose the right song.

It’ll be interesting…

@abasket, jshain: Jessica has dedicated fans from the Philippines power voting for her altho technically only numbers from “within the Continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to cast their vote(s) for American Idol.” They have a way around it as you can see per this site, https://www.facebook.com/OfficialShamceySupsup

I’m not sure if it works but apparently it does since they’ve been doing it for the past weeks. Here’s the instructions from the site I mentoned above.

"How to Vote for Jessica Sanchez from the Philippines and Other Non-US Countries

Here’s the procedure:

… If you have Magic Jack or NetTalk phones in Pinas, you can vote for Jessica by dialing the toll free number that will be assigned to her after the American Idol show. Check the American Idol website or Jessica Sanchez facebook [Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More](http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jessica-Sanchez/51158140363) to find out the toll free number she got for that episode. You have 2 chances to vote: 10am-12noon and 1pm-3pm on Thursday Manila time. If you get busy tone (try at least twice to be sure) on the first time slot, that means your Magic Jack or NetTalk phone has a West Coast number, so trying dialing on the second time slot (1-3pm). You can vote as many times as you want via dial method. If you get a busy tone, it means the voting is closed.
If you don’t have Magic Jack or Nettalk phone, you can also try dialing from your computer using Skype for free. If you got busy tone on the first time slot, try the second time slot. If you have Skype app on your smartphones, that should work too.

And here’s another way to vote for Jessica. On your Facebook account, click on the following LINK today, Thursday, around 11am to 3pm Philippine time to cast your vote:

I think that a PP and Joshua final would have been spectacular. I wonder if the fact that Hollie is gone caused many of fans to move their vote to Jessica this week, in addition to the voties that Krlilies suggested above?

Oh well … I hope Jessica does have a moment and that PP wins anyway, because at least he could try to rake in the votes that would have gone to Joshua.

So funny how we all have our favorites!

I was a big Joshua fan, but I have always been worried that the judges excessive bowing, standing, etc. would hurt him at some point. In some ways I am surprised he lasted as long as he did - I don’t think the audience that votes would be in the gospel camp. Hey, I watch the show “faithfully” but I never pick up the phone to vote. How many of you vote?

^^^ I think that did happen - the judges constant over the top praising, standing O’s, etc. turned some of the viewers off to Joshua - that was def true for me though I don’t care for his style of singing either AND I just don’t warm up to his personality - for me, personality is part of it

Well, earlier on JLo was all about her “girls” - she seemed SO focussed on the girls and rooting for them bar none. Well, JLo you DID get a girl to the finale and probably the one you wanted.

That’s crazy about the “underground” voting for Jessica. I really, really, really wish they would do something about to get rid of the unlimited voting on AI - I could care less how many millions of votes come in! I have voted some years in the past, but admit I haven’t more recently. Did actually go to vote online this week for Phillip but when the AI website wanted access (or whatever they call it) to my FB page, I didn’t go ahead with it.

If Jessica has this apparent “underground network”, I’m kind of surprised that she was ever in the bottom 3, and she was a few weeks ago. She even needed the judges’ save.

I guess that close call must have been the wake-up call needed to get her supporters to vote.

If she wins, she would be the first contestant to be “saved” and get the win.

Agree with Snowflake that the Hollie vote migrated to Jessica (they are very similar singers). That seems to best explain why Jessica made it into the finals. Also, Jessica’s home base of San Diego is a much bigger area than either of Phillip’s or Joshua’s towns. More hometown votes…I’m not convinced that the Phillipines vote made the difference.

I can’t see the Joshua voters suddenly becoming enamored with Jessica. They are much more likely to go with Phillip.

I hope you’re right, but I wouldn’t bet on it. I hadn’t really considered this scenario but Jessica is a more similar singer to Joshua than Philip, in that she tries to hit those big Joshua kind of notes (except in recent performances).

I’m basically from the same region as Jessica and the positive buzz in San Diego and Orange Counties seems to be more about Philip than Jessica.

My theory, fwiw, is that the die-hard Joshua fans that have been putting up the big votes for him will not vote again. They are so O-U-T outta here and are very unlikely to watch the finale and cast their single vote, let alone the voteS they had been giving to Joshua. There will be people who are fans of AI, who were also fans of Joshua who will continue to watch and vote for either Phillip or Jessica, but not in any huge number. I could be very, very wrong about this, but that’s my hunch.

Actually, the exact opposite has usually happened with Idol voters. It’s why so many winners have been from small towns.

I’m hoping this is a little exaggerated - found it on another message board that was talking about AI:

He really needs to be careful with this. I know he wants to get through the finale but is it really worth risking his health?

According to TMZ, Doctors are urging American Idol Final 2 contestant, Phillip Phillips to get surgery NOW to treat a chronic kidney stone ailment that has been plaguing him all season. Phil, according to sources, is determined to work through the pain and will probably go under the knife immediately after the finale.

The recovery time is 6 weeks, meaning he will likely miss the beginning of the American Idols Live tour. That matches up to what Phil’s dad told some fans over the weekend during the Idol star’s hometown visit. Read TMZ’s report below.

If Phil wins Idol, and has to miss the first couple of weeks of tour…that’s going to be very interesting. I imagine surgery will also push back his debut album.

Phillip Phillips — one of the finalists on “American Idol” — has been URGED by his personal doctor to get surgery immediately … but Phillip wants to work through the pain and the risk so he can win next week.

Multiple “Idol” sources tell us … when Phillip went back home to Georgia last Saturday … his family doctor spent almost the entire stay by his side and was alarmed by what he saw — Phillip wasn’t eating and looked horrible.

Phillip suffers from severe kidney problems and at the beginning of the competition it got so bad he had a stent put in as a temporary fix until he could have surgery. But the condition has worsened and Phillip’s doc told him he needed surgery now. Phillip said he was not going to drop out of the show so the doctor told him he ABSOLUTELY had to go under the knife immediately after the finale.

We’re told the recovery time for the surgery is at least 6 weeks.

Phillip’s condition is taking its toll — we’re told the medication causes dry mouth, and it’s had some impact on his singing.

Phillip has also missed some of the field productions that are shot for the show — including the Ford commercials. Our “Idol” sources tell us they felt that making him go on location for these shoots were just too taxing.

I hope he’s not pushing himself too far, but when something like this is so close, I can understand his motivation. I do recall his dry mouth situation after he performed a few weeks ago and wondered if he was on medication that was causing that.

Still doesn’t explain why he was rubbing his thigh so persistently during one of his songs …

Is anyone else bummed at the prospect that the voting may not be a fair fight, i.e. if the “getting around the american voting system” information is correct?
