America's pastime: Hope springs eternal . . . (aka the baseball thread)

My Mariners went 1/11 yesterday with runners in scoring position. That has to change.

garland and musicmom,

In 1969 the Miracle Mets!!! sorry, my comment was really TIC.

Mets fans in their short history have probably had more good moments than the Cub fans, though. I’m sure I’ll die before they win a WS.

I never thought I would see the day when my Rangers played in a WS, but they did. Now to live long enough to see them win it!

I gave up on the game to day and went out to mow the lawn then go to the grocery store. When I got in the car it was the bottom of the 9th with a runner on. They actually came from behind and won 11-10! The pen is probably shot but Nelson Cruz is just amazing. I can hardly believe our good fortune in having him.

And they should have won if the guy who killed us today made a routine catch. And perhaps a bit less screwing with the delays. Cruz was Jin Daniels’ son favorite player. The dismantling of that Rangers team has been painful to watch.

Nellie’s miss in the WS started the ensuing debacle.

Face it . . . neither team was stellar. In reality they probably both should have lost.

Aarrrgghhhh! Eight in a row would be a lot more fun of two of our best players didn’t leave the game with broken bones. Dang.

garland, that was unbelievable that two suffered broken bones in the same game!
xiggi, can’t totally blame Cruz for not winning the WS. Sure his not making that play directly affected the outcome, but if the team had scored more runs, it wouldn’t have been win or lose. Never just one guy’s fault.

I LOVED Jon Lester’s toss to first base yesterday - that was so funny!

We Red Sox fans are worried about our pitching.

^I think even more impressive than Lester’s throw, was the first baseman’s alert dropping of his own glove to catch it.

On a more down-to-earth note, Blevins, the Mets pitcher whose throwing arm was broken by a line drive, stayed in the play and picked up the ball and threw to first with his gloved hand, which I thought was pretty gritty.

Garland - we’re Mets fans. Things can never go too smoothly or look too good, but 2 players in the same inning with broken bones is even too much for us Mets fans.

Are you talking about yesterday’s game? As far as the Game 6 in the 2011 WS, some might think that both teams should have won. Aren’t we hoping for such games when tuning to a BB broadcast? Hyperbolic as it was, some called it the best WS game ever. I think it was one of the greatest game ever, but then I did not watch baseball several decades ago.

PS If you like Nellie today, you can imagine what Rangers fans feasted on when opposing teams were … walking others to get to him. Texas will have to wait several generations to get something like that back. Or ever!

Yesterdays game xiggi - I may have misunderstood your reference, and apologies if I did B-)

It’s official! I want to have his baby. :x

O’s have gotten trashed the last two nights

Gloworm, my BEST teenage memory is listening to the Mets win in 69 on the radio with my dad.
It was one of the last times I remember connecting one on one with him before I went off into obnoxious rebellious teenagerdom.

Go Yankees!!

Well . . . let down again. Something about the 6th inning just seems to by kryptonite for my team. I need to take a vow not to try to stay up for the game tonight. We are reaching that critical point in the season where they need to get some wind in their sails. The Seahawks reported Monday for OTAs and are posting all kinds of FB photos. That doesn’t even include the team “traincation” in Hawaii the week before. The NFL schedule was announced yesterday. The draft is next week. If the Mariners want fans through the summer they need to give people a bit more hope before everyone just decides to shift the brain over to football. I think they had more fans purchasing tickets to watch pre-season practices at the VMAC than they did at Safeco field some days last summer. They need to nip that in the bud by giving us something to cheer for. 8-|

Nine in a row! Injuries? meh! LGM!

LGM!!!

LGM indeed!
