America's pastime: Hope springs eternal . . . (aka the baseball thread)

10 in a row! So happy that Dillon Gee had a good night.

Here I am watching again . . .

The Sox game started out great last night (if you’re a Sox fan) and quickly went downhill with the Rays. Oy.

Bartolo Colon y’all. Could he BE any more fun?

“Colon, 41 and rotund, is pretty much must-watch TV, between his contributions to the scorching-hot Mets and his ability to entertain us with his improbable athleticism. He improved to 4-0 on Thursday, the first pitcher in MLB to win four games,”

Pierzynski will never live that down. Not looking forward to the next series…DH is a Yankees fan.

Ow. We are all luckily on the same page here. Yanks are on a roll, too, and they are always good against us. So, hoping the streak continues, but a little nervous. (DeGrom and Harvey though.)

Pineda and the Yankees tonite, beautiful.

Various news outlets reporting that the Rangers are getting Josh Hamilton back. I will never watch them again if that happens. He burned his bridge and will not be welcomed back by the fans. And Jon D (the GM) needs to be fired.

The King is on a roll!!!

Oy - yesterday’s game with the Red Sox and the Orioles. The best I can say is they didn’t give up but ouch! I’m thinking Miley - our pitcher - may be lunching at the Burger King in Pawtucket RI any day now.

Well, I was wrong about the Rangers fans welcoming Josh Hamilton back. He has received a warm welcome, has hit 2 home runs tonight, and apparently all is forgiven. Some fans I know are wanting him to do well just to spite the hated Angels who let him go (and are paying the majority of his salary).

What fun for the Mets bringing up the SP, Noah Syndergaard, who also had three hits in a game, including a home run. Rare for a pitcher to be able to hit well. Their 6-man rotation sounds like a good idea on paper. I guess time will tell.

We’ve got 2 good-hitting pitchers, Syndergaard and DeGrom. That may be convenient with the 6-man rotation since that means we’ll have one fewer bench player. In extra inning games, we may need one of those pitchers to pinch-hit.

I read we have the most DL days of any team so far–and most of them are pitchers. It’s amazing how deep we are. Good thing Thor and deGrom can hit, since no one else can (well, Duda–and Murphy/Flores almost hit enough to make up for their fielding.)

Our Blue Jays are on a roll. Looks like they’ll win their 11th straight this afternoon, as they are ahead of the Red Sox 10-0 in the fifth, for the sweep. They do tease us like this regularly, so we’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

I have officially given up on my team. There are some bright spots but enough stupidity to make them unwatchable. They can’t seem to execute just the fundamentals of baseball let alone the extra stuff. Luckily OTAs are in the books and mini-camp starts next week. I will have to start rooting for the Giants from here on out.

Alwaysamom–congrats on 11 game winning streak! My team had one of those in the beginning of the season. Then they underwent a massive injury parade, and somehow are still holding on to the division, barely-mostly on account of the division is awful. But our injured are starting to limp back, just in time for upcoming 2 and 2 against your Jays. Looking forward to!

Incidentally you have one of my very favorite players in all of baseball on your team. RA will always have a place in my heart.

If you’re an RA fan, see if you can get ahold of the movie Knuckleball. It’s a documentary about knuckleball pitchers and features RA and Tim Wakefield (I’m a Sox fan) plus the old knuckleballers like Phil Niekro. I saw it at a film festival a few years ago and Wakefield and the directors had a Q/A after the film.

I’ve been meaning to; thanks for the reminder. The one time I saw him in person, my main memory was watching the catcher trot back after one pass ball after another, all while Dickey kept striking out everyone. I have a signed copy of his book, too. Love they guy.

I love baseball because I love my H and my S. I had never had any interest until I met H. He was a high school and college player and is a big fan. He coached S for many years and I was always the team mom and kept the book. We were kind of sad when S decided he would not play in college, but we still follow college baseball and look forward to getting back to the CWS many more times. So cool! We do like to watch MLB games, but love the college game best of all. H hopes his future grandchildren will play. He says he has at least ten more years of coaching left in him.

I was a baseball hater turned lover when the kid started playing. H also coached and umped and we were both on the board. I ended up keeping a million books and still have them. It’s weird not to be involved now. The kid took up a different sport in college.
