<p>Cooper Union is an engineering/architecture/art school which rivals the best of the best in each of those three fields. The reason which it is listed there? IF YOU GET IN THERE IS NO TUITION. They get the top applicatants in each of those fields and then some, since its free they get a ton of applications and only accept something like 5%</p>

FW olin is a new school in massachussetts, but only the best of the best kids are taken in there, and they dont have to pay tuition
it’s an engineering school, and these kids that go there are the amazing kids that are taking an amazing load of work upon their shoulders
since it’s new, it’ll take a year or two for them to make the lists, but they’ll go head to head with engineering powerhouses like cal tech or MIT one day</p>
<p>Cooper Union has actually been around for quite a while, founded by an old robber baron who came from poverty and wanted to found a place where people could go to college regarless of their situation. Thus, much of admittance is talent based, almost 100% for architecture and art, and a very large portion for engineering.</p>
<p>edit: Talent for architectureis assessed with an exam which you take at home over a one-month period, i’m not sure how they go about it with the other programs.</p>

<p>I respect our troops and all, but to include the three service academies over, say Caltech or MIT looks a little dodgy.</p>
<p>hmm, i never knew that the service academies were that prestigious. i mean i knew they were good but i thought that was only for the military. still, HYPMS is tops.</p>
<p>That prestige list is based entirely on % acceptance I think, in which case the service academies are more selective than Caltech and MIT.</p>

<p>the service academies are extremely hard to get into…my friend goes to west point and he needed a letter of recommendation from our local congressman…our mayor…and our principal…and the competition to get that recommendation is like amazingly stiff…he also got rejected from annapolis just because he doesnt have perfect vision</p>
<p>Cooper Union is a great school. Olin is probably more selective and its admissions is very character-based (flying out to candidate’s weekend just so they can evaluate you). I don’t where that list came from, but ended person that is serious about college can think of those schools… Who needs a new ranking…</p>
<p>Harvard College is what Harvard likes to call itself sometimes; you can find the name sometimes on application documents and their website.</p>
<p>The service academies are hard to get into, but not as hard as HYPSM. Many cross applicants get into the service academies and not HYPSM. The process is tougher for service, but it’s still easier to get in. They definitely don’t have the academics to rival HYPSM. About Cooper Union, I usually don’t see it rated very well when it comes to peer evaluation, and I think that’s really important when evaluating the strength of a school’s programs, so I’m still a bit iffy on that. The rankings aren’t pure acceptance rate though, because then Harvard and Yale would be ahead of Stanford. The rankings basically suck.</p>
<p>Olin and Cooper Union are two of the best engineering schools… ever. they both require no tuition payments and are really hard to get into. cooper union is rite in nyc and is the perfect location for an engineering school. it is extremely competitive.</p>
<p>i, for one, totally believe the standings. it makes perfect sense. wen u say harvard university, columbia university, etc. u are talking about the GRADUATE school. harvard college, columbia colllege… that is the UNDERGRADUATE school. </p>
<p>just because harvard and yale are not at the top does not mean the rankings suck. wow. good game. and the service academies are INCREDIBLY hard to get into. if u go to west point, u have to be extremely smart and resourceful. </p>
<p>im not saying they are 100% accurate, im just saying the standings make sense.</p>
