My daughter is now in junior and she wants to pursue her major in premed. Does both these colleges offer good neuroscience major? What do these colleges look for for accepting students? My D is straight ‘A’ student and is very active in all clubs.
I am just curious
IDK about MHC but Amherst has the oldest neuro program in the country, and it is very popular and well-regarded.
Of course one can major in anything and be pre-med, it’s a matter of taking the courses required by med schools. Amherst has a great guide that details all that: https://www.amherst.edu/campuslife/careers/act/gradstudy/health/guide
Thank you so much for your suggestion:-)
Regarding admissions, MHC and Amherst are nowhere near each other. MHC is ~50% and Amherst something like 13%. So from what you said about, it sounds like she would easily get into MHC, but Amherst would be harder.
Good luck to both of you
Acceptance percentages at women’s colleges are somewhat deceptive, as it is almost a self-selecting process–one does not apply to a women’s college unless they have decided that a women’s college is a good fit for them–those who aren’t sure don’t apply. Instead of the college choosing the student, it is the student choosing the college.
MHC offers some merit-based scholarships. Amherst is need-based only. Depending on the family’s financial profile and budget, that could make a difference.
We are firmly middle class, and merit made it possible for D to attend. D had an amazing 4 years there and speaks very fondly of her alma mater.
