An ugly divorce? Or murder-suicide? Scotland

I’d go for this one, myself:

<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

Bagpipes rouse and touch me deeply. It’s the Celt in me, no doubt. :)

Speaking of Celts, I love Men of Harlech. Somewhere I have a recording of the crowd singing it in the stands at a national rugby match. I can’t find one of those, but this scene from Zulu (a movie well worth watching, although some of the details are not historically accurate) may be the best rendition ever:

“You won’t probably don’t know the connection, but Andy Murray was born in Dunblane where the mass shooting in the primary school took place in 96. That’s all I will say.”

Yes, I know all about that. I believe he was at the school at when the shooting occured. I don’t see why that has anything to do with people tweeting nasty things about him being a 'yes."

CNN flashed a poll that said:
No: 52%
Yes: 58%
:))

If you search #ScotlandDecides on twitter you can see the screen grab

The tweets to Murray are by some miniscule number out of millions of Brits. There will always be nasty people like that even among Americaners (the equivalent of Englanders). Most Brits know Murray is passionate about his Scottish heritage and few have a problem with it or would be surprised about his opinion on this. But there are always some. I guess whatever happens we can still count him as the first Brit to win Wimbldon in a gazillion years as he was a Brit when he won it  . I assume he can’t vote as his residence is in London (Wimbledon). I still think it is crazy that he and other Scots don’t get a vote (& I’m English).

Whichever way it goes, I hope people can accept that the decision was based on the majority vote and deal with it and move on with no unpleasantness.

Vote early and often …

Interesting and very sad talk with my good friend who is English but has lived in Scotland for over 20 years and loves it. She said she has been subjected to a lot of abuse because of English accent and the hatred that has been induced against the English by Salmond. She is actually afraid to go into town right now. And this is a woman who has lived through riots in the middle east when we lived there. She is terrified of what tomorrow will bring. So sad to hear this side of the story. Ugh.

Watching STV live - looking like a 60/40 split in favor of No. Next hour will be telling.

I’m sitting clicking on BBC news website. May end up staying up a while to follow this.

Try

<a href=“Watch Live | STV Player”>http://player.stv.tv/live/</a></p>

Wow - just got much closer with a huge Dundee yes vote

I think you’d better read up on the Jacobite Uprising, the slaughter at Culloden, and the breaking of the clans. For starters. :)

swimscatmom

really no surprise there. Glasgow will be similar.

I tried the link you gave me. Using a kindle fire and it wouldn’t work. But thank you. Is fascinating. Amazing turn out!

My teen is up watching it with me. History in the making.

STV statistician calling it for NO

Looking more and more like a NO unless there are a couple of huge yes vote areas

Glasgow is a huge city - BBC says they will declare soon

My hometown voted no

Glasgow not big enough yes- to make a difference. Interesting that the voter turn out was 75%. Think that is the lowest turn out

Yep - their yes is not enough votes. Much lower than average turnout. I don’t think the yes can get enough votes - too deep in the hole. I really hope the country can come together now. Unfortunately this has probably caused a huge divide that will take a long time to heal.
