android users, help a newbie--can't decrypt phone?

So I finally joined the ranks of the smartphone world. It hasn’t changed my world, but it’s okay. Question, though–I thought it made sense to encrypt the phone because so many things open right up, fb, email, etc. and could be accessed if I left the phone somewhere. So I did. I decided to decrypt, though, because it is frankly a PITA to put in the PW constantly.

Did the decrypt procedure–security info is back to asking “do you want to ENcrypt?” so it seems to have gone through, but it’s still asking for a PW. Anyone here know more about this than me? thanks!

What device? The process seems to vary by device and by which version of Android operating system. Did you check every box on the decrypt page(phone, SD Card, multimedia files)?

Samsung Core Prime. I don’t think there were any boxes. Just “encrypt.”

Do you have an SD card installed? It allows you to encrypt/decrypt the device itself, as well as the SD card separately.

No. I just got the phone (my first “smart” phone.) I’ve done practically nothing but this stupid encryption.

From what I have looked up, it doesn’t seem like a very common choice to use encryption. If it is new and you don’t have much on it, a factory reset might be the easiest solution. Backup whatever you have and reset. You can find backup in settings, as well as factory data reset.

Thanks. I think I figured it out. I thought encryption was just putting a password on; didn’t realize it meant something bigger. When I took it off, it left the password on the lockscreen; had to remove that separately. I think I am good to go now. Appreciate your efforts! (like I said at the top–newbie!
