Another job for the dress people

I have a good friend getting married for the 2nd time. It will be a daytime affair. First choice color would be ivory. She doe not want a traditional long bridal gown. She wants to look feminine but age appropriate (mid 50’s)Has already considered and rejected the St John suit look.

Places to shop in the SF bay area?

What time of day will it be? What colors does she like/look good on her?

I find ivory kind of depressing. Why not go with some other color?

THE JEM dress in very pale pink:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/komarov-pleated-charmeuse-dress-chiffon-jacket/3132490?origin=category&BaseUrl=Dresses+%26+Separates</a></p>

I love this one in black:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tadashi-shoji-textured-lace-dress/3390185?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Black%2F+Nude&resultback=5909&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresult</a></p>

I really like that second ivory dress. Except they only have it in a large.

I like that second ivory dress for this occasion too. She may be in luck because a lot of today’s dresses that are in style have lace on them which would make it sorta “bridal” even if not designed specifically for a bride.

Can you tell us more info?

What month is the wedding? What is her budget? Would she consider an elegant suit? Is she looking for short, mid length or long without a train? Short sleeve, long sleeve, sleeveless, jacket or no jacket?? Size, shape? Petite, regular, plus?

Ivory and what else? Light pink? Light peach? Blush?

Consolation: I love the Tadashi dress in the feather color, which is ivory, but it may be too young looking for a mature bride…really pretty dress, though…

I’ll look around and see what I find, but more info. would he helpful…

PS:

Have her look at this website:

TJformal dot com

They have a big variety of unique dresses & styles, both long and short. Maybe she’ll see something that appeals to her!

http://isrv2.efcsite.com/manufcols/moncheri/socialoccasions-current/thumbnails/212820_0025.jpg</a></p>

Hope this link works. It’s a one shoulder silver dress in the TJformal dot com website. I think it’s dramatic and stunning. Not sure what your friend is looking for, Mom60. In that website I looked at the one shoulder category, many to choose from in ivory and also in the suit dresses category.

If the link doesn’t work, then go to the website, click on one shoulder dresses and on the first page you will see a dramatic one shoulder with large bow dress in silver…

Ask her if she wants a “wedding” dress of some sort that she will wear once, or does she want a more versatile style that she can wear again after her wedding day?

Again, long or short? Bare shoulder/strapless, spaghetti straps, short/long sleeves, jacket? All important questions to ask! Thanks!

I can see a 50-something bride going in all kids of directions. I personally would favor either a tea-length, very feminine and graceful dress in a pretty color, or a knock-em-dead sophisticated cocktail dress in a luscious color. A lot depends on what time of day and where the wedding will be, and what type of person she is. And of course which of her physical assets she may wish to emphasize. :)

I like this one a lot:

This would be great, if expensive (I can see it with a small, richly colored and dramatic nosegay):

And I just love this, also very expensive:

I think the first link from Conslation/#8 is lovely.

I was going to say price is not an issue till I saw the prices in the Saks link. She has a great sense of style and likes nice things.
I like the 2nd dress in Consolations first post.
Daytime wedding. Curvy body with a lot on top. She does not want to look matronly. If the dress is strapless she wants a shrug or some sort of cover.
Her first thoughts are tea length and feminine. Likes the idea of lace. Would go long without train if it was age appropriate. She thought ivory but I bet she might go with a color if she felt bridal. She does not want to wear a suit.

Even more than the price tag on that O de la R number in the Saks site is the clarifier that “Model shown is 5’10” wearing a size 2.".

Anybody else pick up that the price tag on the Oscar de la Renta is JUST for the top? The skirt is sold out!

What a shame the skirt is no longer available…

Anyone else now getting dress ads on the side of the cc text?

When I was looking for a dress to wear to my brother’s wedding a few years ago, I looked everywhere. While I found my own dress at Sak’s, I thought that Neiman’s had the best selection for the Mother of Bride, or mother of bar/bat mitzvah, or mother of Sweet 16, etc. Elegant dresses that came with accompanying shrugs or small jackets. Some were mid to high three figures but not all were. I didn’t look in the dept where the dresses start at four figures.

While return shipping is a hassle, it might be worthwhile to order a bunch of dresses and then just ship back those that do not work.

Will she wear a skirt and top?

I know that some consider Talbots to be “matronly”, but I think these skirts look a little more contemporary!

[Talbots - Eyelet Linen Skirt | Skirts | Misses](<a href=“Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots”>Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots)

[Talbots - Beaded Flower Eyelet Pencil Skirt | Skirts | Misses](<a href=“Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots”>Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots)

They also have a lace skirt and top in their Special Occasions section…but…they are very basic silhouttes.

jym–I don’t have ads at all. My boys told me about Ad Block and it has really worked. Of course, I have no idea if Ad Block is aggregating my search info and selling it elsewhere! I just grew tired of the ads everywhere—especially the NYT since I felt I should be able to read their site ad-free as a logged in, home delivery subscriber.

I tried ad block but then it blocked videos if I was wanting to see some news item/video, that happened to be preceeded by an ad so I un-blocked it.

Now I am getting Maybelline nail foil stick on ads on the left of the screen… The dresses were preferable.

Interesting about Ad Block. I haven’t experienced that problem. I am on a Mac, in case that makes any difference. Will ask tech support when he comes home from his summer class.

LOL

My tech support now lives in another time zone. Hate to pester them with this stuff. And when I let my DH (remaining local tech support) clean up my computer, he gets a little overly zealous and I have a tough time finding things… I think he likes the delete option more than I do. Well, that goes without say.
