Another job for the dress people

I don’t really know this woman’s style or her figure, other than big on top. I didn’t do an extensive search but I think these are very pretty:

If she does want a full length gown, this champagne colored one would work in the daytime and would work with someone large on top, though not large on the bottom:

I don’t know if she would need a plus size if large on top, but if so, this is very lovely:

This is ankle length and very pretty, or could be shortened to tea length:
(it’s even on sale)

Soozie:

LOVE the last one, by Kay Unger! It’s gorgeous. But not sure for a large chested woman. Mom60? Would it work??

Soozievt love the first Sue Wong. Also like the
Kay Unger.
Himom- think those are more dress then she is looking for.
I am forwarding links but have not heard back.
Wedding is a year away.

how about this very pretty one?:

The problem with the first Sue Wong dress that I did not notice until now is that the upper back is open which is lovely but doesn’t work for a large busted woman who needs a bra. I know as I have a large bust!

Yep, Suzie, saw that one too! Mom60: It really pays to have your friend look through the dresses on this website and perhaps order one where she can definitely choose her own color! If the wedding is a year away, she’ll have plenty of time!! Then she can report back to us how the customer service and quality is!! Good luck, let us know…

She may want to check local stores and bridal shops for ideas and sizing as well. To me, nothing beats wearing the clothing I’m considering before I buy or have it mailed to me. Lots of times it just doesn’t look the way it was photographed once its on my body.

One more comment:

That website says all dress sales final. Many of the dresses on the website are of quality dress designers that I have seen at other stores. So I agree with HImom as far as going to other bridal and specialty women’s formal dress shops to try on the dresses. Maybe you’ll see a few from this website that you like…bring pictures with you to local dress shops and see if they have it in stock for you (your friend) to try on. Order locally, perhaps, so they can fit it exactly to her body and she can see the color swatches in person. Good point, HImom.

I liked Suzi’s first two best - especially the second one. I guess I’m of the mind that if you have a big bust you should flaunt it. (I don’t - I was totally flattered when a breast surgeon - (nothing too serious) - was positive I was a B cup not an A cup!)

If she finds photos of styles she likes, the salespeople can be more helpful and likely will know if there are other dresses of similar style and or color to what she wants. I always like to see the actual dress, how it drapes, fabric, etc., and feel its worth paying a bit more for the opportunity to try the garment on, with shoes, accessories and even hair pinned up to see how things look and feel. When my sis was shopping for a gown we all thought the shop more than earned their markup in such services. They let us photograph her in the dresses as well so she could remember them and grace us a sample of fabric to match with the florist and favors.

Which website says all dress sales are final? I would not order anything with that stipulation online. I shop online a lot but it is always returnable.

If one is contemplating mail order, be sure to understand return, exchange, refund policies, as well as shipping costs to minimize exasperation and frayed nerves and check books.

If the website is not for a brick-and-mortar store you’re familiar with, I’d look up the name of the site with “reviews” to see what people say.

Some of these sites make designer knock-offs overseas and the quality/returns/sizing can be an issue.

^^Soozie: The original website I suggested was TJformal dot com. Countingdown: It is an American Company that has been in business for over 40 years with real designer clothing, not knock-offs. However on closer look I see that the return policy is basically non-existent. So, my suggestion was and still is to use the website to look at styles that you like and then print off pictures and style numbers and then take the pictures with you to reputable bridal stores and women’s formal dress shops in your area to see if they carry the dress to try on in person.

Last night I looked up “Cameron Blake” which was the name of several dresses we posted on-line. They have a website on-line that tells the name of the stores that sell that brand in your area.

The difference may be that the actual store that carries these dresses may charge more than this on-line store, however piece of mind knowing you can try on the dress in person and return it if necessary makes the higher price tag worth it, imo. You could take a gamble and order the dress from this on-line site after trying it on in person, in order to get a better price tag, but I would personally not take that chance knowing it was not returnable.

Mom60: I also googled bridal and dress shops in San Fran and of course there are a ton of stores to choose from.

It’s kind of hard to believe that an online clothing retailer can be successful with a no return policy. I always thought that the reason online clothes ordering worked well is that it is returnable. Every clothing site online that I know of and use (many of which have NO brick and mortar stores) have generous return policies, which is why people are willing to order clothing online.

chocchipcookie has a good suggestion to locate those same items in a retail store (and try them on) since they are brands not specific to the online retailer. Most of the online clothing places I use have their own label, except of course, the department store sites.

chocho, wasn’t casting aspersions on that particular store – but when I was looking at dresses online earlier this year, I found some non-brick & mortar places that had great stuff for low prices. Went to read reviews and found out they would not accept returns, sizing was off, and had lots of customer complaints. Buyer beware, that’s all! :)

No prob, Countingdown! I would say you are an expert in this area about now!

Mom60: The dress that was so pretty, the short white embellished one, is from the Mon Cheri Social occasions collection. That is a very popular dress brand, so your friend can probably find it locally.

Also, there is a website called New York dress dot com that has 28 pages of just white and ivory dresses, all the same brand names that many stores carry. This website takes returns but only in an exchange or for store credit and is BBB approved…so my thought is to still look for dress styles, print the pictures or write down the style numbers and look locally.

Good luck and hope she has fun and finds what she’s looking for rather quickly!
