I hope they can salvage online sales. I’m still an EB fan.
The Eddie Bauer stores near me closed a while back. Still, sorry to hear that.
They weren’t already out of business? Huh!
I haven’t been in a brick and mortar for ages - but that is true for many businesses - I’ve taken my shopping online. But shopping online from them has been reliable especially for outdoor wear.
What I thought - I thought their stuff was just licensed for the name, but the company no longer existed.
Who knew….
H will be disappointed by this news. He buys a lot of his casual clothes from Eddie Bauer and loves their jeans.
JC Penney sells Eddie Bauer branded clothes. Maybe he can continue to buy his jeans there.
I am driving back from Detroit to Chicago. Might have to go into the Eddie Bauer outlet. They used to have crazy free return policies. I took back my 25 year old coat and got a brand new parka like 5 year’s ago. My two Eddie Bauer coats this one and a puffy one are like the warmest coats that I own. The last like 10 year’s they had issues with the zippers to the point you could go get it fixed and they paid for it. But in the weather we are having I can be down right hot in the coat. Too bad.
While the store closed near here a while ago, we have been ordering online for a while. DH loves their pants and I have several fleeces of theirs. This makes me sad.
I had the opposite experience with returns. I got a couple of 26 inch suitcases from them back in 2012ish. Several years later the wheels broke on one. I was told they would take care of things forever. However, when the problem happened I was informed they had changed that policy and now they only did a 1 year warranty. I didn’t complain much, but it was frustrating.
Yep. I got really lucky. I was in the store and my wife was like pushing me to ask about their policy. They were like “Just take anything in the same style and bring it to the register”….I was like “OK “… but I just read an article on this. They are restructuring. They will have some stores than keep the online presence. I bet they will keep the outlet stores open. I will go if I hear they will close those. We have two about an 1.5 away and we go there anyway occasionally to get away for the day or visiting friend’s.
DH and I might go up the the outlet store today. After I pack!!
I really like Eddie Bauer. They’re stuff is high quality. Of course, there’s also LLBean, Lands’ End, anything from REI, and good old Amazon. It’s a tough world out there.
One of my most fun, novel shopping experiences has been at an Eddie Bauer WAREHOUSE in Columbus, Ohio. Open to the public but they also had member days where the discounts were even more drastic AND there was access to a room of perfectly useable but imperfect items at crazy discounted prices. Like beach chairs with the overhead “visor” for $5. Huge beach towels for $5. A pair of Keen sandals for $10.
I believe it’s still there but we haven’t been for a few years.
Most of my pup’s coats are Eddie Bauer. Purchased either online or at Home Goods. They are on their 2nd dog and still look great!
Our Eddie Bauer closed several years ago, but when we ski in Colorado we always stop by the Silverthorne Eddie Bauer outlet. I have several fleeces from there and D2 got a long down parka when we were there a couple of years ago.
Do we know if they will continue to sell online?
Soo… we went to the outlet store today. The sales clerk said their website was just sold to some unfamiliar company.
I live in the land of LLBean and I’ve never bought anything from Eddie Bauer. I don’t think there’s ever been a store in my area.
Eddie Bauer was a west coast staple, just like LLBean was popular on the east coast and in Midwest. I don’t think I ever bought anything from LLBean.
My husband lives in his Eddie Bauer clothes.
An entity called Catalyst Brands operates the stores. Authentic Brands Group separately owns the Eddie Bauer brand and its intellectual property.
From the article:
“Changes have already been afoot for Eddie Bauer this year.
Authentic Brands Group, a global brand development and licensing platform, said Jan. 8 that Outdoor 5, an Eddie Bauer licensee, would take over Eddie Bauer’s e-commerce and wholesale operations. Outdoor 5 is now also responsible for the brand’s design and product development in the U.S. and Canada.”
Those licenses previously belonged to Catalyst Brands.”
Eddie Bauer (like LL Bean and other companies) has gone through a few style revamps. There was a time in the 80’s/90’s when I would shop the mall store often - Some beautiful cotton sweaters (I remember one I wore to death!), jeans, shorts, t shirts, etc. And stuff for my H too. Then I feel like their clothing became lesser in quality. But the outerwear always held in style and quality. Same for LLBean - I bought a lot from there 30 years ago and then I feel like their styling went really flat - even for basic sportswear. I’m back buying outerwear from LLBean too - and that may be my substitute browsing place online if EB is not available.
I have an Eddie Bauer fold up backpack that I took on a recent trip. So convenient and well made. DH has one also. The stores near me have been closed for a long time, but Eddie Bauer goods were found elsewhere often.
Our kids still have lunchboxes we bought in the 80’s. They are great…and indestructible (and machine washable).
I hope with their restructuring that their quality doesn’t go down.
