Another school shooting…in FL.
CNN reports that the shooter is in custody.
I’m at my mom’s (not far from Parkland)and there has been a steady stream of sirens in the distance for the last hour or so.
MSNBC had video of male matching description of shooter handcuffed, frisked, being loaded into squad car. They also had interview with FL Senator Nelson saying that from what he was told, multiple fatalities.
thoughts and prayers, but never any meaningful action
One student reported that he had read on line that today was Purge Day at the school. He told the police…after the shooting!
Just yesterday I told my son, who was at the Vegas shooting, that the reason a pall is cast over every day is not because I still feel traumatized by the events of that night but because almost every day there’s another and another and another shooting that won’t let me forget. I am so sick of this.
ABC says 14 injuries, but no deaths! I hope that is true.
Sun Sentinal is reporting multiple fatalities.
“Multiple deaths were reported Wednesday as gunfire broke out at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, with a suspect reported in custody.
Coral Springs Mayor Skip Campbell, whose city contracts fire service in Parkland, confirms there were “multiple fatalities.”
A woman who works in my office has a nephew at this school. We knew the suspect was apprehended. No one yet knows if there are deaths. The tension is awful
I just want to add that Parkland is a lovely area. People live there because of the good education and safety.
Just listened to an interview with a current student who is a friend of the suspect. He said that the suspect repeatedly showed photos of his guns to friends and demonstrated seriously angry behavior towards others. Hard to listen to this stuff when school shootings happen again and again.
Just devastating . . . cannot believe this. Shouldn’t be such a shock I guess. But it is. It always is. Know that area very well and it really hits home.
There is some harrowing cell video out with lots of gunshots and screaming.
^It has long sense stopped being a shock to me.
Just saw this. We’re still in Ireland. Even the police here don’t have guns. Sometimes I’m embarrassed to be American.
I just got home after doing a college visit with my son and turned the tv on to watch the Olympics. Instead, live special report on NBC of yet another school shooting. I’m actually sitting here in tears watching a teenage boy being interviewed with his mom…he suddenly was unable to speak, when asked if he knew anyone injured, put his hand to his eyes and turned from the camera, overcome with emotion. As mom of a freshman and junior in h.s., I could only imagine them trying to understand if this happened at their school. My youngest is a 7th grader on the same small private school campus-they expelled one of her classmates earlier this year after he brought a list to school of kids he wanted to kill. I never really worried about something like this actually happening (do any of us? Tho none of us are immune). But when dd told me, and mentioned the family supposedly owned guns as the kid said they did as he and his dad hunt and dad is in the military, I realized it really could have been a reality if the kid was able to access the guns.
CNN just reported 16 dead at this time. No numbers of injured.
I feel sick.
I think this is backward (and I hope so). NBC has 20 injured (and taken to hospitals) and 1 death confirmed.
CBS confirming at least 12 dead.
They are attempting a national standard … no standard. That’s the whole point of reciprocity.
