Another travel/weather thread

Here we go again. Big travel time for some and wretched weather. We have family members supposedly driving from the Northeast to Midwest on Thursday…and flying from the Northeast to the west on Thursday.

The flying looks iffy, the driving looks horrible.

Wonder if there will be less snow driving across PA than NY.

What time is the storm supposed to hit? My daughter is flying out of LaGuardia Airport NYC on Thursday, late morning. Looks like this is going to be quite a storm.

My tennis group has already cancelled our 9:30am game tomorrow and none of us have to drive more than 10 miles to get to the club. It’s going to be really bad on I 90 corridor the further away from the coast you get tomorrow. It’s also to cold for salt to do much good. It’s supposed to start snowing in Albany about 9 tonight straight through to mid morning on Friday.

S is flying back to East Coast on Friday–hope he is safe!

DH and son are driving today…and via PA, hopefully south of the worst snow. They will arrive in Ohio about 1 a.m. DD is flying from Hartford, via Philly, leaving in the morning. Keeping my fingers crossed she makes it here.

Snowing like crazy again here in NW Ohio - however D in central Ohio has no precip and a balmy upper 30’s all day. Looking for another 12-24 hours of snow here. Ugh.

Stay safe.

The worst of the snow in the NYC area is scheduled to fall between 6pm Thursday and 6am Friday, with the heaviest amount east of the city. The meteorologists still have a wide range of actual snowfall, as the speed of the storm is still a big question. Look like a minimum of 6-8" in city and nearby burbs.

Ugh, ugh and ugh. Our furnace stopped working several days ago. Although we put a deposit down on a new one, because of the holiday, we probably won’t get it installed until next week. And now the storm!

6 to 12 inches are forecasted. Not a very big deal. BUT the tempeture forecasts are a bigger concern. Low single digit highs for the next few days, well below zero lows and 25 to 30 below zero wind chills. And no furnace!! We’ve spent over $700 on heaters just to keep our home habitable for humans, pets, pipes and plants.

Again, ugh

Oh morrismm, I feel for you.

It’s been snowing for more than 24 hours here now- it seems like it is never going to end. We shoveled three times today and I know I’ll need to shovel again in the morning. The county hasn’t touched any of the county roads and they are absolutely awful out there. Morning rush hour is going to be a mess. I’m so glad I get to work from home the rest of this week. My city, on the other hand, did plow our subdivision once so far, about halfway through the storm. They’ll probably plow again early in the morning.

My son is kind of lamenting about how unfair it is that the two big storms we’ve had this season were on days when they didn’t have school anyway. One was a Saturday, then this week.

We live in the mid-Atlantic, but have family and friends in Wisconsin and neighboring states. I am impressed by the crazy cold weather the northern midwestern states have already had this year. So many days of really frigid temperatures.

My son, his wife and baby have been here since 12/19. They live in Valencia, Spain, and it has been horrible here near Chicago. Last night DIL received an email that her grandmother had a heart attack and is not expected to make it beyond today. We tried to get her, at least a flight, out today, no dice. So much snow here we can’t get out of the driveway anyhow.

Safe travels to any and all who need to.

eastcoascrazy, it HAS been crazy cold in Wisconsin and Minnesota. And we have had a lot of snow already. We had a fun snowstorm on New Year’s Eve, just to make things more interesting. :)

As bad as it’s been, though, I would rather have this than temperatures hovering around freezing like the east coast seems to get in winter–all that ice scares the bejeezus out of me.

Having lived in Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Maryland, I can say Wisconsin had the worst weather. I remember one year in the early 80s when it did not get above 0f for 3 weeks - that was the daily high…ugh. Way too much snow, too. It was so cold you couldn’t go outside to do anything in the snow.

Yes, ice storms are scary, but rare here.

PS - my life is complete if I never see snow again in my life. We are Already discussing where to go for Jan/Feb 2016 when S1 is in college. (We always joked we would put the house on the market the spring of his senior year in HS, but now I realize that’s not a good thing to do a college freshman).

Morris, I hope somehow a miracle happens and you get some heat - somehow!

Gloworm, how awful for your DIL - sympathies.

So much snow on the deck this morning I could barely open the screen door to get outside - the dog looked at me like “WHAT?! We are going out in that!!!?” Work is only a couple miles away for me, but the roads were awful. LOTS of blowing and drifting - no idea how much actual accumulation is.

It snowed all day yesterday. (NW of Chicago). We have about 14 inches now and it is supposed to snow much of the day. TV says 8-10 total. They are behind a bit… Very pretty out as the winds have been light. Traffic is bad and H is still sleeping in, but snow blowing will commence soon. Good luck with this storm!

My fingers are still crossed that DD makes it to Ohio today. First plane supposedly has left BDL. On to the Black Hole of USAir…Philly. Please don’t let her get stranded there!

My son will fly back to NYC friday.

Thanks, abasket.

Learned about an hour ago that she passed. By the time the kids arrive, the burial will have taken place. So, they are leaving according to the original plan of Sunday, weather cooperating.

Everyone miraculously arrived here! It’s nasty here in Cleveland, but the plane arrived!

Good deal thumper1 :)

abasket- I had to shovel a path for the dog to get from the deck to the grass and I shoveled a small patch of grass for him to do his business. His legs are about 6 inches tall and he is about a foot tall. There are drifts much taller than him. He didn’t like being restricted to one patch so he catapulted himself into a snow drift and then leapt from there to a spot near the deck where he could get under the deck. What a goof. I was afraid I was going to have to rescue him, but he got back to the patio door on his own. Phew!
