Another travel/weather thread

I am starting to fret over my son’s Southwest flight to Chicago tomorrow. His friend’s was cancelled (from New Jersey) this morning at 6:30 am and that kid is now taking a 20 hour train ride…

Dropped off S for 6:30 am flight to Boston. The flight was 1 hour delayed. He flys into Denver first and we thought this would be a problem until they told us his connecting flight to Boston was 5 hours delayed!

Today’s Southwest Airline afternoon flights from NYC to Chicago were cancelled, but UChicago also cancelled its first day of classes, which were supposed to start tomorrow.

No seats available on Monday flights to Chicago, but still checking.

Last time my kid tried the train, it was cancelled due to bad weather. I think he’ll stick to trying to get another flight.

Well, my son, his wife and their 13mo. daughter are scheduled to fly out of O’Hare at 7:10PM to Zurich, on their way home to Spain. So far the flight says on time, but I think that will change. Many flights have been canceled, and the heaviest snow of the day has yet to fall.

When there is no traffic and with good road conditions, the drive from our home is about 90 minutes. I dread what it might be today.

Best of luck to them, gloworm. That’s a long trip, especially with a 13 month old, at the best of times!

Both afternoon flights from Hartford to Midway today (Sunday) are only listed as “delayed” by about 10 minutes but I’m sure that will change…

So glad my kid’s drive back to Maine today is clear sailing. They are supposed to get freezing rain/mix later tonight but he’ll be back well before then.

I’m also glad this next storm is only supposed to be rain. Bitter cold doesn’t show up until precip is all over.

Hope everyone who has kids flying /driving today make it to their destinations safely.

Numom, I took the train once from Syracuse to Chicago went I was at UofC. It took forever and I was much closer than NJ.

Just read that Kennedy airport reopened after closing briefly due to icy conditions:

Reports are that some roads are icy in the NYC metro area.

All flights today cancelled, earliest we could get him rebooked was going through Baltimore and arriving Tuesday night, sigh…

Northwestern also closed tomorrow

[Emergency Information: Northwestern University - Northwestern University](Emergency : Northwestern University)

Just got back from bringing the kids to the airport. It’s not snowing there, and the incoming
plane has arrived.

Flight will be delayed, but so far it seems they will fly.

I got a call this afternoon that my school is closed tomorrow. Yay!!

Notre Dame has cancelled classes for tomorrow…

All flights to Chicago from Boston were canceled yesterday. H managed to get S on a flight to Indy instead. Spent a harrowing 5+ hours while they were on the way to school from Indy - a 2 1/2 hour drive took them well over 5+ hours and the roads were absolutely miserable. Most of Indiana is closed down - they were not even supposed to be on the roads, but couldn’t find a hotel to stop at! School’s canceled today and tomorrow - sigh, if H hadn’t been that efficient, we could have three more days with S at home :)

My D was able to make it from San Diego to Newark via Phoenix on Saturday with only slight delays. She has a friend that was supposed to fly from San Diego to JFK Saturday night and is now rebooked for Wednesday. Another friend was flying out of Boston on Saturday and is finally getting back to California sometime today.

Keep warm everyone!
