Another Winter Weekend, Another Winter Storm

The water bottle thread can only carry us through so much of the weekend, lol, might as well have a weather thread…!

Whose weekend (long weekend for some) is being affected by weather. Should be a roller coaster here. So far we’ve been spared snow, but it’s raining now, winds are picking up and we are expecting a progression of rain to snow to wind (40-50mph) to frigid single digit cold in the next 3-4 days.

I think many areas of the country are experiencing a crummy weather weekend. If your weather is fab, we WILL have to deduct a point from your CC rating.

If you’re having that crummy weather, have any plans/projects for inside???

We’re supposed to have the highest tide of the month at 11 am tomorrow, which will be about the peak of the storm.

This past week, Portland recorded its highest water level ever. :frowning:

Under a blizzard warning until noon tomorrow but so far it’s been mostly rain/wet snow and high winds by me but I’m told just 2 miles inland they have significant snow.

We are supposed to have cold weather and snow tonight and tomorrow? We usually never get snow so everyone freaks out when it happens.

My daughter is mad it is happening for the weekend and they won’t get school off. :joy:

We are currently in Seattle, where we had snow yesterday just as I was supposed to meet friends for dinner. They were coming in from out laying areas and decided to stay safely at home. Not much accumulated but the next few days will stay cold so any ice that’s around will stay.
I’m proudly using public transportation to get back and forth to my daily radiation appointments and standing at a bus stop in 20 degree weather gets old fast but it beats bridge tolls and parking fees.

I was in Scottsdale last weekend. When I teed off at the golf course on Sunday it was 38 degrees and raining. That wasn’t how I thought AZ worked. :joy:

I am in Scottsdale now and we’ve had freeze warnings 3 mornings this week. My outdoor water aerobics class started this week, but I was only able to drag myself to one session.

I think there are weather warnings in all states in the continental United States.

Getting 12”-18” and windy here in northern Michigan.

I will hear the snowmobiles as soon as the heavy snow stops. All the winter sports are about to start.

No where to go, just endless football games to watch.

Ohhh! I guess it’s my CC birthday today! :tada:

Lots of rain and wind expected here overnight. Cold temps Monday, snow Tuesday. H took the dog out for a long walk this afternoon before the rain starts. I’ll be sewing, getting everything put away from our anniversary trip, and doing budget forecasting for our synagogue. We also need to make sure our withholding for 2024 is ok.

Last weekend’s predicted snow event was a bust here (we were in CA for the wind and waves and 737-900 Max grounding delays instead). However, the dog farm where Z boards got 5" of snow, just an hour from our house. Our pup was extremely happy to have to stay an extra day!

Bff’s mother’s funeral is in a small West Texas town Monday morning and there is a chance of freezing precipitation so I am forgoing it. The visitation is late Sunday so I don’t want to drive hours in the dark home, especially if there is a chance of slippery roads. Bummed.

Saturday night I’m going to a show with a friend, and Sunday means football!

IR lamps have been installed at the hummer feeders. Sunny but  here in the greater Seattle area.

Crazy weather. We expect this on New England. But I don’t think some others here do.

I’ve been getting flood warnings and wind alerts all day. I live along the Chesapeake Bay and we had some damaging flooding with Tuesday’s storm. Not supposed to be as bad this time, but with all the rain we had Tuesday, and more wind/rain tonight, the worry is that trees will topple due to saturated ground. Our neighborhood is full of very tall trees so that is always a concern. We have already personally had significant tree/wind damage twice in the 28 years we have lived here (most recently in 2019) so I always get nervous with these types of storms. Fingers crossed!

I will give a shout out to our utility companies and our towns which have both done a LOT of tree work this year (and last, and even before that).

We live in the woods and we always worry about the trees.

It was cold but otherwise boring weather wise when H & I started walking this afternoon. By the time we finished, we were soaked from the sideways snow being pelted at us by whipping winds. A few hours later, the accumulating snow was so heavy that our pine trees have been losing huge branches.

In about an hour, it’s supposed to start raining. That should last about three hours, and then it is going to snow again. It’s winter!

On the positive side, a neighbor posted on our neighborhood Facebook page, saying that he got a great new snowblower. He offered to do the driveway & walkway for any neighbors - no questions asked, no charge. We live in the ‘burbs & while our immediate neighbors always help each other out, this is an amazing offer. We have 200 houses in the subdivision, and driveways are long. What a great guy!

We shoveled about 2 inches of basically heavy snowy slush off the driveway about 2 hours ago, it’s raining now but at midnight the temps will drop and the high winds will kick in and the weather guy said whatever is on your drive/sidewalks at midnight will be a sheet of ice until January 23- yikes. :scream:
