It’s not icy at all here. It’s a light fluffy snow.
It’s fluffy now, just south of Boston, but it’s supposed to get wet later, and then freeze.
That’s what is happening here. It started off light and fluffy, but now it’s wetter, and very slick.
My son’s university in VA just went from a noon start, to now being closed for the day.
The snow here just got a lot heavier with much larger flakes falling. I’m not sure the NWS got this forecast right…
No school for us today. Ice storm starting in the afternoon. The roads are like a skating rink already. The bummer for us is we don’t have any snow removal in neighborhoods as we don’t usually have this kind of weather.
I feel so bad for my hometown where my parents live. They have had horrible wind, freezing temps, trees falling, electricity out for days. Only one store is open on a generator. I feel lucky we haven’t had it that terrible so far.
No snow here- going to upper 30’s today. I swear when the sun is out (most of the time) and especially no wind it feels 20 degrees warmer.
Unfortunately we make up for it in the hot summers, when the same is true with sun and wind.
Since retirement- we prefer the winter here because we can choose when to get outside for a walk.
It’s still snowing here but more lightly. And temps are supposed to be in the teens overnight. Driveway needs to be cleared before that temp drop!
It’s downright warm today … it’s been ten degrees all day.
A tree went down a block away from us at 1 am – I heard the transformer blow. We lost internet, part of our neighborhood lost power, too. There were eight huge trucks on the street when I drove by this an. First they had to get the tree removed (it was in the street), they had to replace the pole and then restring it. PEPCO had said power, etc. would be back around 8 pm, but we got Comcast back at 3.
Roads were snow-covered at 2 am, cleared when I woke up this am.
Kudos to the crews who were out there freezing in this dangerous weather.
We got 4.5" of snow (MD burbs of DC), but tonight is supposed to get down to 10 degrees, which is pretty cold for us. Another 1-3" due on Friday.
Cleared snow off the 200’ long driveway. Kudos to me The snow was heavy at the bottom while the top was crusty.
Snow stopped. Driveway cleared. Temps are frigid!
Not looking forward to an icy car and icy roads early tomorrow morning. Retirement is looking better and better!
My driveway is currently a skating rink.
I had to go in the office today with light wet snow. My bus route was not running because Trump was in town. I am officially over the snow and am ready for spring. And whoever thought it was great to use marble for sidewalk was out of their mind.
Weather continues to be “winter” wild!!! We are in that pattern of “inch or more” daily. Today we woke up to at least a couple inches. Not a problem alone but on top of other snow and ice that has been present for nearly a week - and cold - meaning salt on the roads doesn’t do much good.
Tonight the low is again near zero - through the weekend - hate to rush time but really hoping by mid week we can get warm enough to make pavement “safe” outside!
This is perhaps the saddest story of this winter storm:
How incredibly brave of this teen to get the baby out of harm’s way. She was also very lucky that she did not slide into the downed powerline or a puddle of water.
This is not too far from us. The teen was just a sophomore, i believe. So very, very sad.
I saw that on CBS last night. I thought it was good to know that you should stay in your car if there are live wires on it. If you absolutely have to get out, you should JUMP, to make sure you’re not touching the car and the ground at the same time. I never knew that.
I really didn’t either. It is hard to know what to do when you are in a panic.
