Kid flying in to Newark tomorrow. We just got an alert from the airline that weather might affect the flight (on the Newark side). Sure hope not!
I am so done with ice.
@Acpurple22 Hey neighbor! Not too far from us either. And so sad. I heard the grandparents watched it all happen from their house and they couldn’t do anything. So so awful.
I have a kid who is supposed to be flying today or tomorrow. Hope they make it home!
I can’t even imagine
Your kid should have no problem. As of an hour ago Newark got 4 inches and the snow has been tapering off. I was in the predicted center of the storm zone - 4"-8" predicted and ended up with maybe 3. Cold may be more of an issue. Hopefully they’ll have a safe and warm flight.
The sun is finally shining and a warm up is on the way!
The ‘kids’, D, SIL, GS, and GD, were in Colorado for a little ski vacation. Their travel back to Denver was delayed (roads closed) due to weather. Finally, a nice trooper allowed them to get back on the highway behind the plows and police escort. The kids, four and six, were good sports spending more than seven hours in the car. They missed their flight and the next flight. They had to stay overnight, but did get out the next day. I am thankful they are back, safe and sound!
Side note: GD (4) loved ski school and GS (6) said it was okay. GS also reported that his dad took him down a few ‘extra challenging’ runs.
And my kid got home yesterday!
Yikes. I drove 50 minutes north to a NAMI Maine Board meeting. It took me more than 80 minutes to drive home. If I had known how bad the weather was, I would have skipped the meeting. I probably should have gotten a hotel room and spent the night up there. Freezing rain, so hard that the windshield wipers and regular defrost couldn’t keep up with it. I put it on max defrost and it barely worked, but I was roasting, it was so hot. I didn’t see a single truck putting down salt or sand. I had to go 30 mph some of the distance on the highway. A few tractor trailer rigs blew right by me. Surprisingly, I didn’t see a single accident.
Very glad to be home!
Yikes! I guess you are far enough north that your rain is freezing. It’s just pouring regular rain here…and that is horrible too. But at least not slick.
And it’s another snowy weekend here in New England. We have already gotten about three inches of snow with more expected where we are. Some folks further south or lower elevations will see rain…later.
We’re at our cabin in a remote part of Maine. It was snowing when we left our house Friday. We were pulling a large trailer with our snowmobile. The roads were horrible. DH drove very carefully, but when trying to make a left turn after exiting a highway ramp, the car didn’t steer correctly and we slid very slowly into a guardrail. The car was damaged below the right headlight but the light still worked so we drove on. TBH, I was a nervous wreck. Our friends were following in their car and I think it would have been wise to turn around. But DH said we’d be fine. Some of the back roads were plowed, some weren’t. There were a few long uphill sections that were tough. Surprisingly, the last stretch, a gravel logging road, was not bad. And we met a neighbor who was plowing it! Kind of surreal to come across that in the wilderness.
A friend lent us his second snowmobile so we had two to use. I’m a scaredy cat, so I made DH go 10 mph as I held on tightly behind him. After he got stuff and people the 2-mile distance to the cabin, he went back for our two Aussies. It was their first trip up here in the winter, so I was nervous. But DH drove about 17 mph and the dogs followed him the whole way. We’ve had a wonderful weekend. Hoping the trip back is easier since it’s in the 30s and it hasn’t snowed anymore.
Maybe next time we can stay three nights. It’s an awful lot of work for only two. We have to drain and winterize the water system every time we leave.
Beautiful! But I’m sorry about the damage to the car. Glad it was minor!
Beautiful in the snow. Sorry about your vehicle.
We are an Aussie family ourselves
Pictures of the snow, pictures of the snowmobiles, pictures of the house—and no pictures of the AUSSIES? Hmpphhh, say Piper and I.
Is Piper a pup? One of our Aussies is named Piper. We say the name fits her to a T as she is always is piping up about one thing or another
Yes, Piper is the pup in my avatar (she’s actually 7 now). She’s a very vocal dog, always talking, chirping, and grumbling. Glad to meet another Piper!
