You’d think after these awful things surface, most guys would do a “gut check” and clean up their acts before their dirty laundry gets exposed.

Yes, well people with normal egos would, but the narcissistic believes “it will happen to thee and to thee, but NEVER TO ME” *

Also…I think these guys worry that if they were to break it off, these women will black mail them or will expose them out of anger…which is another reason why not to go down that path!!!

Politicians that engage in these activities run the risk of being blackmailed to avoid exposure.

Crazy isn’t it? To think that Bill Clinton put his presidency into the hands of a early 20s intern…surely, nothing surpasses that!

curm…LOL…well, what I meant was one to one online private messaging between a middle aged guy and a teen…not a public discussion forum. I mean what purpose could his “chat” possibly have??? Surely not college admissions or political advice! :D

You are correct, ellemenope, nothing surpasses the stupidity of what Clinton did in the White House with a 24-year-old he barely knew.

And for pure nerve, it’s hard to beat Guiliani, who wanted to move his mistress into the mayor’s mansion along with his wife and kids.

These people are just unbelievable.

I just read that Gabrielle Giffords may not run for re-election. It is still not clear what level of functioning will be regained, and there are still severe communication problems. I can’t help contrasting her struggle to regain her congressional career with Weiner’s cavalier attitude toward preserving his career.

Hey I predicted he’d be redistricted out pages and pages ago!

I never thought Gabrielle Giffords would be able to run for re-election. Making great progress for a woman who had a bullet go through her head is not the same as making great progress toward being able to regain enough function to be able to be a US Congresswoman. It’s terrible; she was an up-and-comer.

Agree about Giffords. In fact. I think she should have resigned or been removed a long time ago. She’s clearly unable to serve, and it’s not fair to her constituents to have no representation in the House. It’s sad, but it’s reality.

I had to laugh at Weiner’s decision to “seek treatment”. Who knew there was a treatment for being a raging ***hole?

Yes, his constituents don’t want him recalled. 1) the expense 2) the trouble 3) the risk that someone who isn’t going to vote the way they expect W to vote will get elected 4) Lots of Curmudgeons in the district?

I felt the same way about Giffords. Many years ago a young woman was in a terrible car accident where I worked. The entire company was rooting for her and supportive to a degree that was beyond usual as her life hung in balance. But when she returned to work, it became clear that her cognitive skills were not there to do her job or really any job. It was a tough situation as her family really wanted her back at work and it could not be accommodated. I suspected the same situation would occur with Gifford.

And now to lighten the mood: Unfortunately phrased headline “Pelosi Wants Weiner Probe”.

AW just wants this whole mess to “blow” over and that’s why he’s being so resistant to leaving. He kept saying, “let’s get back to business”, but truthfully he isn’t facing the reality of what a mess he made.

I think this is just much harder when a life-changing event happens, like what happened to your colleague (ctofthehouse) who was in a car accident or to Giffords. They didn’t cause the problem, but certainly, their life wasn’t the same.

wonder if anything will come to light regarding the reports of him texting girls under the age of 18.

Haha, Tatin…

I’m sure that Congressman Weiner can be replaced with someone equally as liberal from his district. Someone who can restore the trust to the constituents that he dishonored. No matter what political party we most hold our representatives to act more responsibly. They seemed to forget that we hold them to a higher standard when we entrust them with our vote. So, I say thank you Congressman Weiner for your service but now it is time to pass the baton!

“Agree about Giffords. In fact. I think she should have resigned or been removed a long time ago. She’s clearly unable to serve, and it’s not fair to her constituents to have no representation in the House. It’s sad, but it’s reality.”

Maybe her health insurance was through her job, and she wouldn’t have health care otherwise?

Bill Clinton set the bar for this generations ethics. Boldly look you in the eye and lie. Deny until you get caught red handed then wordsmith your way out of it. It’s okay for him and it’s okay for you too. Ugh.

Bad behavior isn’t always hypocritical bad behavior. Using your Gore example, there is nothing hypocritical about the fact that his marriage ended amicably and no evidence that he “pretended” to be in love.

Back to the topic of the day: most politicians are sleazy.

I can’t help but note that with your comments about Tipper Gore and Elizabeth Edwards as being “hefty,” you apparently believe that a man couldn’t really sincerely love a wife who wasn’t thin, but must be embracing her only for show to appeal to women. How much of a GQ prize are you, precisely?
