Anthony Weiner

I wonder if you walked down a typical Main Street in America and asked 435 men (who’d been given truth serum) if they’d sent sexually explicit photos to strangers over the Internet how many you’d find who had. Would you find one or two?

Or (as I suspect) are Congress critters more likely to engage in this sort of behavior.

“I’m curious what you all think the public opinion would be if a female politician sent explicit pic’s? Would she be seen as worse than the men who have done the same thing?”

Janet Reno, yes.

Due to events of the last, oh, 3000 years, men in general do indeed need to be condemned for being gross thoughtless pigs. But women deserve to be chastised for being aware for 3000 years that men in general are pigs yet they’re all shocked when an individual man’s piggishness is exposed.

It really depends on the explicit pic and how it is sent.

I, for one, thought Scott Brown’s appearance in Playgirl was fine. He is a hunk and his junk is covered.

But sending bulging or (eeew) erect genitalia photos to strangers over twitter is just creepy.

EWWWW. Why do guys think this kind of picture is attractive. EWWWW.

As I understand it, he sent these pictures to people he was already having online conversations with, not random people, and he only tweeted that one picture by accident. And I guess the recipients didn’t object. But still. EWWW. If I were his wife, I would soon be the former Mrs. Anthony Weiner.

Where are the male commentators on this thread? Just askin’

I dunno, but I can add that my DH (who is very liberal, over-educated, etc…) is completely disgusted and disappointed in this guy.

SOOO disappointed.

I think that I will run upstairs right now and ask my 50-something husband whether he has sent crotch shots to anyone. I will leave the computer on so that you can all hear the disgust in his voice.

That was a great article posted early in the thread about what women would really like to see pictures of.

Agreed.

Seriously, guys, do you really think that women want to see that? You are mistaken. You may think that it’s truly wonderful but we honestly don’t want to look at it.

I am constrained by the forum rules. I’m sure that anything I would say would be “deemed” to be political. :)

I am very careful to remain gender neutral on C.C. but I have previously ‘come out’ as being male. And no, I will not send you a message with an attachment to prove it.

(goes back into closet).

Our S is graduating from HS on Saturday and I’m feeling like I need to let him know that under no circumstances should he EVER take these pics of himself and send them. I dont see politics in his future necessarily but there is obviously a whole group of men who think this is an attractive thing to do. NOT!! I was thinking where are their heads…but we know the answer to that.

Schmaltz is a male.

vicariousparent…I thought you were a mom!

I always wondered why men thought that such photos were a turn on for women. I don’t know if it is cause their ego is tied to their “male parts,” or if the fact that they like photos of the sexual parts of females and assume us females like the same thing in return.

Very funny thread. I do think that the percentage of politicians who participate in this kind of exhibitionism might exceed the percentage in the general male publec simply because it takes quite an ego to think that anyone wants to look at that. Politicians, generally have large egos and narcissistic tendencies anyway, so it would make sense that they would be more prone to this kind of behavior.
Maybe they could get their kicks by taking the pictures and sending them to themselves since they are usually their own biggest fan.

Well, forgive me for obscuring my gender, but guys like Weiner make it easy for me to stay in my closet.

We are a couple that have equally shared all biologically feasible maternal and paternal roles and we are equally close to our D. We initially chose the ‘parent’ in our username so either of us could use this account- but it turns out the biologically male parent has a much greater addictive personality disorder. So most of the time it is Dad who is on here.

it isn’t exactly on topic … but it actually happened to me.
My friend has no cell phone.
Her niece found her ex-H’s camera at her (their old) house after she went on a trip and he stayed over for their (4) kids. On the camera were pics of the ex-H’s fiance. (naked and yes crotch shots which ewww)

Niece can get them from camera to her phone so sends them to my phone, but my friend forgot to warn me. I got naked woman pics from some phone number I did NOT RECOGNIZE. I assumed it was a wrong number and eww and deleted them immediately.

But has NONE of them ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER?

And no, we are not in our teens, 20’s 30’s or even 40’s.

my eyes! my eyes!

I don’t have much to add other than I think he demonstrated his poor judgment in engaging in cyperchat of this sort with random females in the first place, even more poor judgment in sending the photos (which might get him thrown in jail if some of these people he doesn’t know turn out to be underage), demonstrated how he’s untrustworthy in how he lied directly to his supporters and others about the event (sound familiar?), and is now demonstrating even more his sense of entitlement and lack of accountability by refusing to step down from his office.

I hope his former supporters express their anger and disappointment in him by not voting for him again. Even for those willing to give this a bit of a pass if they consider it a ‘personal event’, they should be outraged at his blatant lies to them in trying to cover it up.

^^^
omg!!!

Enjoying the coed participation on this thread. Yes, my DH is - if possible - even more disgusted by the Congressman than I.

It just boggles the mind the never-ending line of politicians (and others-golfer/international financier…) who have this degree of narcissicm plus cluelessness plus lack of respect for their spouses plus lack of forethought as to the degree of humiliation and pain they will cause their families.

I just know that the dads on this thread and in our lives are not part of this club and I can’t imagine that the majority of men are. But the constant introduction into the news of some new “player” sure makes it seem that way.

ucsducladad…yes, it is a personal matter, agree. But it is just dumb to do this as a politician who is bound to be scrutinized. I agree that the transgression as a politician is the lying to the public and loss of trust. The other matters are mostly between him and his wife, who I do feel sorry for.

jmmom, agree that there have got to be many decent men out there who find such behavior inexcusable. But it seems like there are so many public figures, in any case, who are engaged in this sort of thing to varying degrees (this is not as bad as an affair or fathering a child with a mistress, but it is all in the same vein and starts coming across as the norm, rather than the exception).
