Anti-Gay-Marriage Leader Resigns

conyat: The key word is USED TO BE, okay? Let’s be honest about the present. What is the point of dwelling on the past and all of your anecdotal Catholic horror stories, exactly?
The rest of your stuff I don’t have time to continue to address, and frankly wouldn’t anyway, since the way you twist my and other’s words is astonishing, actually.
leal: Limbo is not taught anymore, either.
golani: Please don’t rely on everything you read here to teach you about Christianity. The only posts that are reliable are Drosselmeier’s regarding “fundamentalist” Christians, imo. Also, I think you’re too smart to go to a wiki “Anti-Catholicism” entry to learn about Protestantism. Learn about Protestantism and Catholicism by doing your own digging.

HH,s do you study history? if so why? what possible reason should one study history if not to learn from it?

right now we have fundmentalist all over the world of various relgiions wrecking havoc because they see their way as the only way- sects fighting sects, health care being denied because of religion, and if you think it is not relavent in today’s world, wake up

as for limbo, well, it is still taught in a different way

http://www.seattlecatholic.com/a051207.html

its all up in the air…and as for “anymore” in tems of Cathlocism, that change is a blink in time, one generation old

HH, what’s the point of all the name-calling you have done in this thread?

In this country we have a rising number of people calling for the state and not parents to direct children’s religious education. If you can’t see how the historic discrimination against various religious groups is relevent to that discussion, I feel sorry for you.

Oh, please. Give it a rest, already. I’m sick to death of your intolerance.

I just do not see any indication of a Christian theocracy in America. All there is is anecdotal evidence.

HH laments that the Bible isn’t being taught as religious content to all schoolchildren in her state, regardless of their parents’ beliefs, and accuses others of intolerance.

Makes you wonder what the textbooks will look like when she finally gets her way.

Maybe I missed it, but I have not seen that HH wants the bible taught in public schools

Thank you, golani.

Golani, that we don’t yet have a theocracy in this country is not for lack of trying. If you do some research, you’ll find that plenty of people are advocating for theocracy. Try doing some googling on theonomy, dominionism, Christian Reconstructionism, etc. We’ve even had a Congresswoman state quite recently that only Christians should be elected to public office; otherwise, she said, you’re “legislating sin.”

I’ll agree that it’s early days yet. But other movements that have done great harm to society have sprung from small, extremist roots, and taken over the mainstream. It’s really difficult to assess at this point how many people would see the US a “Christian nation” given the opportunity. Some have never really examined their beliefs; others know that what they want is a change from our present system of government and a departure from the Bill of Rights, but don’t self-identify as “theocrat” because they know it’s a perjoritive term.

I suspect that all of them believe that the establishment of religion is OK as long as it’s their particular religion, and have no ability to put themselves in others’ shoes.

Golani, read back a few, perhaps several, pages, and you’ll find HH bitter about how the Bible is taught (as religious text, but not truth) in her state’s public schools. And quite frankly, all the name calling HH has done to anyone who dares to mention historical facts she would rather forget is ample evidence of her intolerance.

conyat: I know you think you’re very smart, but quit while you’re ahead (?), okay?
You have an agenda as big as Clifford, the big red dog.
As Drosselmeier said to you: chill.

I did read back and I still do not see that indication.

I think its just unreasonable paranoia to believe that the country is moving to a theocracy. There is absolutely no indication of this and I am willing to bet there is more to the congresswoman story than you are saying.

An excellent resource in separating fact from political fiction may be found here:

[Annenberg Political Fact Check](http://www.factcheck.org/)

Golani, the “congresswoman story” as you put it was national news and not just something I am “saying”. Did you miss it? No wonder you aren’t more concerned.

And HH, it’s disappointing that you’re still going with the ad hominem attacks (“I know you think you’re very smart”) even after you’ve been told they’re offensive. My “agenda” is to see the Constitution and Bill of Rights maintained for posterity. I agree that’s large, but it’s hardly radical.

My “agenda” is to see the Constitution and Bill of Rights maintained for posterity.

Does the Second Amendment mean individual US citizens have a personal right to own firearms?

That’s the way I read it.

After studying the issue, I agree. It is personal, subject to reasonable regulation by Congress - like having to register machine guns and prohibiting destructive devices like howitzers, missiles and so forth.

You rock! :)

Thanks p2n. I don’t have one myself, but I’ve enjoyed firing them under supervision. I am just a little too accident-prone and absent-minded to think I could be a responsible gun owner.

Folks who are cautious from the start with firearms are safer than those who are not. :)

Not to hijack the thread - back to the regularly scheduled argument ;)

Ah, I mean religious/political discussion…

OT, Guns are tools where I live. End of story. You can’t chose not to have a shovel.

I think all households should be equipped with a family nuke (to deal with varmints, of course.)

This IS a religious issue. ;)
