S24 and I visited Elon and he ultimately felt it was too small for him so he did not apply. But we both thought his sister would probably really like it. D26 is very interested in nursing school, specifically BSN programs. I know Elon was just starting a BSN program when we visited because they mentioned it on the tour and I am curious if anyone has a student who is either in the program or has applied. Would love to hear more. We will likely get her down there to visit next year for her junior year.
Hello: My son is a freshman nursing student at Elon this year. He is also a Nursing Fellow at the school. He is having an excellent experience so far. He is the third BSN class. They are about to graduate their second accelerated class. Since it is still relatively small he is getting ALOT of support from all of the teachers. They are very dedicated to the success of the program. Happy to answer any questions
Thanks so much. She definitely wants to visit and my husband is taking her for a visit in April. Hopefully she can tour the nursing school facilities. How big is his freshman class? Can you tell me a bit about the curriculum as well as clinicals? I know as a freshman he won’t have started clinicals yet, but I am curious where they do them (I am a nurse and did my BSN at Boston College so getting to clinicals was easy). I worry a little about the location of Elon in terms of ease of clinical access. But when my son and I visited two years ago, I loved the school and was excited when I found out they had nursing.
The freshman nursing class is about 56 students this year. They start clinicals one day a week Sophomore year locally (Cone Health/Abermarle) Some in Junior/Senior year have the opportunity to have clinicals at Duke. They are 45 mins away but some dont mind the drive for the experience of working with the doctors at Duke medical. They have 100% pass rate on the NCLEX and are very interested in keeping it that way so they work extensively with the students to pass. They are currently adding on to the nursing facility as it supports the PA program as well. My son took cell biology first semester and is taking Anatomy and Mirco biology in the spring. He is also minoring in Chemistry in case he decides to try to go to med school. The campus is beautiful…our family jokes the sky seems bluer at Elon
Hi…did your son apply ED?
No he applied EA and then applied to the Fellows program as well
This article might be of interest.
D24 just accepted into the Nursing program. Does your son have any thoughts about what dorm (or LLC) is best since much of their time is spent in Francis Center? Thx
My son is in the East neighborhood and loves it. The other good ones are Global or Colonades. Stay away from historic . Freshman year, he has had no classes in Francis but East is the closest. He will be in Francis Sophomore year … Congrats to your daughter!! Last night was the junior class white coat ceremony and my son said it was great!
@coastal2024 – Coincidentally, I also have a D26 who is interested in pursing her BSN, and we are also planning a visit to Elon this April. (My mother lives nearby in Greensboro and we will be visiting her). I have searched high and low, but cannot find a nursing specific tour offered at Elon. Have you had any luck scheduling something nursing specific? (If we are going to make the trip, I would love to check out the facilities and get some nursing questions answered…)
Thanks in advance
My D26 will be visiting likely April 19 or 20 and we have not found any nursing specific tours yet.
We were looking at the week before — but I am waiting to book flights in the hope that a nursing info session or tour might be posted for this spring. We are pretty flexible re dates. In any event, I’ll let you know if I see anything pop up…. Or if I end up reaching out to admissions to ask.
We did not have a specific Nursing tour but in the fall before my son started they did have virtual information sessions just for the Nursing students.
Hey! Elon nursing class of 2026 student here! I am a tour guide specifically for the School of Health Science here at Elon. Tours of the nursing facilities are individually scheduled and private as opposed to the typical group tours Elon offers on campus. Send an email to the admissions office or the nursing program assistant director to schedule one!
Awesome thanks so much!!!
Great – thanks for the insight
any concerns that the school is not nationally accredited? Do you plan to work in NC or are you hoping it will happen by 2026?
A friend nurse of ours got my wife, my daughter, and I a little worked up about the issue. I don’t see too many else talking about it so maybe she overblew it for us. I’d like to understand the issue though. thanks!
New programs need to first graduate students to get national accreditation. I think they are currently pre approved. I guess there is a risk but there is also trust to the institution. I assume if you ask the school they might provide you with a “report” of shorts that shows their road to accreditation.
Thanks for posting this. I fell down the rabbit hole a little bit, trying to educate myself about national certifications (Elon is state certified and its students can sit for the NCLEX). It sounds like national certification is important if your student plans to apply to graduate school (MSN, DNP or similar) because those programs often require a BSN from an “accredited” program.
I am visiting Elon next month with my D26 and I will definitely ask about the status of its national accreditation application.
What I can’t figure out is whether the certification sought by Elon – the NLN CNEA – is sufficient even if granted. It is a newer national certification agency with a pretty meager list of accredited institutions. It seems like the CCNE and ACEN are the more established certification agencies. Anyone know?
Edited to add – I did see on the NLN CNEA website that Elon’s pre-accreditation is good from 10/14/22 to 10/31/25. Anytime during this window, it can apply to become fully accredited. Also, programs granted pre-accreditation status are deemed “likely to succeed” in full accreditation.
thanks- it seems the rabbit hole is big enough for both of us
I have since talked to one other nurse friend who warned me that a friend of hers was at a school that didn’t get accreditation and her degree was not recognized. Details were light (and hard for me to verify with google search) so not that helpful except to spook me further. I thought she said Syracuse but I couldn’t verify that (although their nursing school did close).
Anyway, feel free to message me directly if you want to continue to share notes. I’m rapidly learning a lot about the world of nursing programs at colleges! And, I will be with my wife and daughter visiting Elon next month too!!
