Any instate student with a 4.14 GPA and 2220 SAT would probably get in right?

I don’t have any impressive hooks. I am in all honor societies, a couple clubs, and I volunteered for the Red Cross…am I in?

Write good essays and you should be in.

No not a guarantee.

I’ve seen students with slightly better stats be wait-listed so don’t count on it.

for what its worth, from my in-state high school in Virginia we had a good number of students with better stats get rejected or waitlisted (3 kids with 2200+ SATs and over 4.2 GPAs got rejected, but this is a lot considering only 8 or 9 generally apply). At the same time, (again I don’t know because I’m clearly not an admissions officer), the SAT score is definitely a very competitive one.

One thing to consider is your GPA though. A 4.14 can mean wildly different things at different schools.

At the end of the day, SAT scores and GPAs can only mean so much. You should really focus on showing your passion and interests in essays and the awards/accolades you’ve attained.
