ERC housing is nice, but the walls are very thin! Invest in earplugs.

are there a lot of wild parties at erc or is it one of the more quiet colleges?

Are the walls at Warren thin? Also, what exactly is the setup of the Suites? I get that you have ~6 rooms around a bathroom and a Suite, but then does your whole floor have a common area?

So the thread that KingsElite made telling us to do the housing thing was the housing application, right? Is the housing contract also on a first come, first serve basis?

^Submitting the housing application thing should give you priority on your housing preference. Even if they changed things and it doesn’t, there was no harm in submitting it anyway. You’ll get the housing preferences thing later.

@Yell0w

Unless they change things which I don’t think they will, no. All the dorms and suites are single sex but there are guys and girls suites on each floor.

@JeSuis

There’s a study lounge on every floor which is for everybody.

How are the dorms at Thurgood Marshall?

Marshall dorms are not as good as ERC (I have lived in both colleges: Marshall dorms and upper apartments, and ERC I house apartments). However, they have a certain flavor to them…when the time comes around, request a single! There are no doubles, and triples are not fun at all. Marshall living is good in the sense that it is not too far out of the way. The center of campus is a short walk, and so are many of your classes (hopefully). Also, don’t be shy–Marshall dorms are built close to each other probably to facilitate social activities (just my suspicion). Worked for me, I met my boyfriend (2 years ago…) because he and I lived next door in the Marshall dorms!

I’m admitted for this fall, but am hoping to take some summer courses. There are two classes I want to take, but there is only a 10 minute break between them… at my CC it’s hard enough to get to classes on time w/ 10 mins, but clearly UCSD is a larger campus. Is this doable at UCSD, though?

The classes I’m thinking of taking are at Center and York… from the campus map they’re not too far, but I really don’t want to be getting to class late each day.

Your opinions/experiences?

Wiz khalifa and jimmy eat world sgf 2011!

Most likely gonna miss Admit Day/Open House this coming weekend due to previous commitments.

Am I missing out on anything big, according to trends from previous Open Houses? i.e. forms, propaganda, announcements, etc.

the majority of matriculating students won’t be going. (i didn’t)

Hey! So, I’m an out-of-state admit from Washington State, and I am really REALLY interested in UCSD, but I’d like to know if it’s worth it to go to UCSD from out of state when the UW is right across the water from me. So, is UCSD a great experience worth having?

I think you should come check out UCSD yourself and come to Admit Day to see if this school is for you! Since you are an out of state student, if you can financially afford it, that’s a plus too.

Hi everyone, I’m new here. I’ve decided to join UCSD thanks to its offer. But I’ve been feeling a little bit disappointed that I don’t seem to have a chance learning in a private college. Since I am a high school student outside America, the college cost of a public school is as high as a private one for me.(And we are told that the education of private colleges in US is absolutely unique and amazing) The reason why I prefer private colleges is that in each class there might not be so many students and maybe it helps to get myself involved more. I really want to start getting used to the fact of studying in a public school and I hope I can do well and enjoy my college life in UCSD with all of you. Can anyone tell me anything about the atmosphere of having classes with like 2 to 3 hundred students, and how to learn better in class? THANKS A MILLION!

How is UCSD’s Aerospace program?

@hirainforest: Even though classes have 200-300 students, not many students actually go to the professors office hours, so that is definitely some thing you can do. There is also usually discussion classes (20-50 students) so that provides a more intimate setting with the TA’s. And if you are really feeling disconnected with the classes, UCSD offers OASIS tutoring programs for many big classes. OASIS - office for academic support and institutional services offer FREE tutoring and you get lots of resources, help and even have opportunities to find study groups! :D

Do you know many, if any, people who got in through an appeal? Know anything about their process? What major?

Hi Guys,

I am an admitted student and was wondering what the process, if it exists, is to sign up for summer classes before the official start of our tenure in the fall.
any links, ideas, comments?

Thanks !

1) Do you get notified of the placement exams after you send the SIR?
2) Do the exams have to be taken at UCSD and not online?
