the number of prerequisites required for various courses is just mind bogglingly high,is there a way to attend a particular class even if the prerequsite has not been met? are there placement tests that can be taken now itself to clear some lower division courses?

My daughter received an email “Apply to Become an IDEA Scholar!” Does anyone know what this is? Her major is bioengineering. I can’t seem to find anything about it on UCSD’s website. Thank you!

@Karish

^That’s what AP classes are for I suppose. You’ll just need to make sure that you have the classes you need to take well planned out.

what do y’all think of the workload for this tentative schedule for fall? is it too much (especially with ochem)?

chem 140a
phys 1a
phys 1al
chem 7l

Sounds fine if you have some old labs from past quarters for either or both 1AL and 7L.

Does anyone know if the box office is open during summer? or finals week?

^It’s closed during the summer but it may be open during finals. And as far as that class schedule, last quarter I took:

CHEM 140A
PHYS 1B
PHYS 1BL
BIEB 102
EDS 122
PSYC 1

It wasn’t too much work, but I guess I should have studied more. Ha ha. Undoubtedly Oyama has had harder quarters than that though.

What are Warren dorms like? I saw on the site that they were situated in suites. Are the suites all one gender? Do they connect to an outer hallway, so it’s like a group of suites connected to one hallway?

I can’t do Chem for crap, $KE$. Much respect.

^Thanks. I guess it’s also fair to say my classes this quarter are:

CHEM 140B
PHYS 1C
PHYS 1CL
MUS 111
EDS 123
PSYC 60

Fun stuff.

@Adamantoise

Yeah they are all one gender. There are 6 rooms (2 triples, 4 singles) per suite. Each suite has a common room and restroom with showers. People in your suite are the only ones with keys to your suite so you don’t have to worry about random people wandering in. There are 2-5 suites per floor with a study lounge, washers and dryers, and a trash room for each floor.

^ and I can’t do physics, so I’m also in awe.

Kings, you’re in PSYC 60 too? On MWF or TuTh? I’m in the TuTh one LOL.

astrina and Oyama are both impressed with me. I never thought I would live to see the day. But really though, even though I rarely miss a class, my study habits have been pretty deplorable. I have trouble focusing when I study. My grades aren’t HORRIBLE (I haven’t received worse than a C in any class), but I still let myself down on many days. It’s not like I’m totally ****ed for grad school or anything but my grades aren’t fun to look at. I need to improve. I keep telling myself that but I need to do it.

@orangeicecream

MWF :(

Thanks KingsElite, you’re helpful as always ^^

I have a question: Im still undecided if I want to live on campus or off campus. What are the benefits of off campus? Is it cheaper? Thanks

Also, I heard that you cant take classes that are not for your major? Is that true?

@kobros

Only some classes are for majors only. Refer to the UCSD General Catalog ([Courses, Curricula, and Programs](Courses, Curricula, and Faculty)) to find out if the classes you are interested in are for majors only.

@koboros

You can take most classes as long as you meet prereqs.

Thank you for the info. I was getting worried because I wasnt accepted for a primary major ( Bio Sci) and was thinking that because of that I might lose a semester or two

^You can take every class you need for that major without being a biology major.
