Any Signs of Spring Where You Live?

Howling wind and rain all last night and into this morning here (NYC suburb). But it is staying light later.

I’m in Vegas… people are walking around in T shirts.

One crocus today and lots of tulip tips are up and have been for over a month when they could be seen with all the snow and rain/ snow mix right now.

Heard a common yellowthroat (warbler) here in southern New England the other day. Friend saw a bluebird at his feeder. Red maple buds starting to fatten up and glow red in the swamps. Oh yes indeedy spring is on the way.

Oh yeah. Winds at 35 mph. People who grew up around here think the four seasons are Summer, Fall, Winter and Wind.

Here in Georgia there are daffodils blooming and the weeds are growing in my grass.

Ha - Spring - what’s that? 10 inches of snow yesterday!

Its pretty nice this afternoon, it’s not sunny, but I didn’t wear a jacket to do errands!

Maine does not have spring. The trees finally come out by the end of May, then it’s summer. We do have mud season, though.

Snowing hard right now - beautiful.

Chicago-area here. The snow is heavy and slushy instead of light and fluffy - does that count as a sign of spring? My favorite sign of spring - it is still light out when I leave the office in the evening. And I’ve been hearing birds chirping in the morning. Can’t wait for spring!

This morning I saw several robins. First time this year.

Only have about a foot of snow here (not counting drifts where plow has come through) and temps in the 30’s so I guess that counts as spring! ;)

Witch Hazel (Arnold’s Promise cultivar) is starting to bloom and the 22 inches of snow, which has fallen in the last few weeks, is melting. Once I see the Witch Hazel I feel like the winter is starting to come to an end.

Forgot to say the fish houses have to come off the ice next week so that is also another sign of spring around here! :)

OMG we have months of winter left!

Termites are swarming in so cal, Welcome Spring!

“OMG we have months of winter left!”

It’s 41 where I live in upstate NY today and 41 where my kid is in Maine. I think that’s pretty warm for February.

I cannot recall the last time we had single digit temps or below 0 and we use to have that for weeks at a time in winter. A day or two here and there this year and last year none.

I can also have plants in my garden now that never grew in my zone before.

Overall, our winter has been mild. As emilybee said, no prolonged periods of cold weather.

NorthMinnesota --

Do you usually have snow cover for the entire winter until the spring thaw? Or do you have periods where there is no snow on the ground?

Once we get snow it usually lasts all winter. Last winter was the exception as we had a very mild winter with less than average amounts of snow fall. I believe we are currently around 3 inches over average. We will continue to get snow for a few months but that doesn’t stick around long. It is not unusual to have snow in to April.

Some neighbors’ daffs are blooming, but ours haven’t yet. It’s probably a good thing because snow flurries/wintry mix is forecast for this weekend here in the deep South.
