Spring is buried under several inches of heavy, wet snow. However, D is in San Francisco and sent me pictures of a beautiful spring day today. I would be jealous, but she will be back in Chicago tonight & will have her fill of cold and snow!

Still in the 40s and rainy in the Pacific Northwest, but the crocuses are blooming.

We’ve had more snow than usual but we only had one week of bitter cold temps this winter and it only went below 0 one day, I think. We’ve had lots of small snow falls which were very heavy while they fell but didn’t last long. We’ve had lots of short bursts of white out conditions resulting in 30-40 car pile ups on the freeway. I’m still winter weary now though.

My daffodils are about 4 inches high
I noticed it during the snow/sleet/ice/slush that fell Monday.

Saw a few daffodils coming up, but it’s trying to snow right now so I don’t know how they will fare.

71 degrees this week. My Flowering Pear finally lost its stinky blooms and replaced them with fresh green leaves.
My orchids and Gardenias are blooming. The grass on the horse trails is a foot high in places, and the birdies are building their nests.

This evening, I met a group of old friends at a local resort bar for drinks and appetizers— sat outside overlooking the ocean from 4:30 to 6:30, without jackets. It’s definitely not winter anymore in SoCal.

Used to be an early sign was cyclists working out with fixed gear bikes. But with the rise of hipster stuff, fixed gear bikes are year round. Fedora optional.

BTW, remember a few years ago when every guy losing his hair had a shaved head and that little beard. Now it’s a hat or cap. I hope it switches to those little beanies with propellors.

moonchild, so jealous! I absolutely love San Diego with it’s sunny, mild Mediterranean climate. Not sure if that is where you are in SoCal.

Just south of LA, on the coast. Didn’t mean to make you all jealous. Ok, maybe a little.
(It sometimes seems that there’s a lot of California bashing on this board, and I just shake my head.)
This morning, I’m off to the nursery to find some spring color for my patio. ;)

You mean besides the piles of snow outside?

moonchild, also love the Newport Beach area. We once stayed at a very luxurious hotel there (I believe it’s now the Newport Beach Marriott). We felt quite pampered by the pool attendants who would spritz us with Evian water while we lounged poolside.

Daffodils, ice, rain and busy squirrels!

Oh…visited S in San Diego recently. Had not been there in decades and his best grad school option ended up being in paradise, otherwise known as La Jolla.

I keep thinking of the beauty of San Diego, as the snow keeps falling, day after day here in the Midwest. Need to go shovel the few inches off the stairs, as just couldn’t stand the thought on arrival home tonight.

In answer to the OP’s question: NO, it will never be spring. We have had so much snow (WI) that people are starting to make not-funny jokes about Everlasting Winter. Yes, the birds are back, but we have probably 8 inches of snow on the ground, so if there are crocuses or daffodils or hyacinths you wouldn’t know it.

Um…not here. We are having a snowstorm…spring will just have to wait. I think the groundhog needs a refresher course in forecasting spring!

I am hoping that these 20 below normal temps are a sign that we will have a cool summer. The weatherman is writing off March entirely, saying that it will be April before it warms up. LOL.

Hail and snow here in NJ.
sigh.

Yesterday I found a purple crocus peeping up from the edge of the garden. Now it’s covered with several inches of snow. Poor thing…

It was 60 degrees yesterday…then it snowed today.

Winter storm warning in our area today. Had to run the snowblower to clear the drifted in driveway and mailbox today. And dig the garbage and recycling cans out after they were buried by the snowplow. Always winter, never Christmas…

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but another 70 day in Texas. A bit windy, so allergies are bad, but we sat on the patio with a frosty adult beverege.
In July, when it’s 113 here, remind me about today.
I spent some time this weekend digging my perieniels out from under the mulch. Hostas and astilbe are looking good.
