As of yesterday, I’m one step closer to transferring to UVa next fall (fingers crossed) and my wife and I are preparing for the move. We’re both southern california beach raised people, although I spent time in the Army, so I got to spend some time in the south, northwestern ny, and washington state. My wife on the otherhand has only even visited places other than Hawaii or Europe a handful of times, so she is less than confident.

So any socal transplants out there care to share their move and how long (if ever) they acclimated to suburban life?

Bonus points if you’re a non-traditionally aged parent.

Ok, out about any west coast transplants?

2nd year transfers or parents, I’d like to hear from you folks as well. I’ve searched through a lot of the student reviews on ***** and on the University’s website, but have not had much luck in finding stories I can relate to.

I’ll bet you’ll enjoy the change of seasons (which are moderate), the lack of severe congestion (as long as you can minimize driving on Rt. 29 north at peak times), the moderate cost of living, the proximity of Shenandoah National Park, and the high air quality. Also, the availability of Amtrak is great for visiting DC, Baltimore, NYC, Boston, etc.

Can I get anyone’s opinion on the available child care in the area? And about the family housing options?
