My son has a b/d coming up. I got to know the best places for cakes, cookies, & cupcakes in Cambridge, but Silicon Valley is new to me.

when I goggled this, I found at least 10 places. It would be nice to have suggestions from people in the know.

bookworm, my husband’s company there always seems to get the bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt cakes (various locations on the Peninsula), and they always seem to be a big hit.

I sent my son something like this http://www.cheryls.com/birthday-party-in-a-box-cco-ha13-119041?categoryId=3200000036 when he was in the Bay area. His birthday was the day after a major national holiday so it wasn’t possible to get local places to deliver timely.

I wrote to Cheryl’s for catalogue. dbwes, are bundt cakes that special for birthdays? The cupcake place in Cambridge had pinot cola do, beer, rum-type cupcakes. That made that gift special.

still, I am grateful for any and all suggestions.

I think the bundt cakes come in all kinds of flavors and are very cute too. http://www.nothingbundtcakes.com/

Here in Sonoma County, we LOVE Sift Cupcakes. Their nearest location to Mountain View is in San Francisco, but they also ship their cupcakes…I’m guessing that they will arrive to Mountain View very fresh. The owner of Sift has won “Cupcake Wars” before on the Food Network and the cupcakes are sublime. I highly recommend the Sift Pink Champagne, Falling Star and Stud Muffin cupcakes. Yum!

vineyardview, thanks!!! I hope you came away from the earthquake without damage.

I love Nothing Bundt Cakes…they also have bundlets and bundtinis, smaller versions of the Bundt cake… This might not be exactly what you had you mind for his birthday but keep it in mind for other occasions; they come in 10-12 flavors.

I am open. I wrote to both, and I am open to suggestions. I’m pleased that my son enjoyed having such gifts sent to his lab in the past, and wants the tradition to continue.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/palo-alto-baking-company-palo-alto
If you like what you see then call them and ask if they will deliver to the address in MV.

Wooh! Sift starts at $36 a dozen plus shipping! Would be over $100 for 2 dozen. Cannot fault them for quick response, though.

I’m clearly open to othe ideas.

I am pretty sure Kara’s Cupcakes in Palo Alto delivers. I’m not sure how large the delivery area is, but I think it’s likely Mountain View is within range.

Kara’s looks good, but $25 delivery charge.

Another suggestion, although it’s not cupcakes, is to order from a favorite of mine- a bakery with a mission.
Misericordia.com/bakery.aspx.....delicious brownies and cookies, breads. Might not be what you’re looking for but thought I would throw it out there. I’ve sent packages from there to my college kids.

Love the suggestion of the bundt cakes - they look yummy.

Has anyone tried 350 Degrees in Mountain View? I’m seeing some positive reviews, photos of cute cupcakes, and it looks like they deliver. It sounds like you’d like something unique/memorable, as well as needing it delivered. Silicon Valley is not an inexpensive area so there may be a price tag to go with that. Hope one of the suggestions here works out for you.

Thank you, bookworm. Fortunately, we only lost a framed picture in the earthquake. Its too bad Sift doesn’t give some type of discount for ordering a dozen or more cupcakes. They are SO good!

I haven’t tried Sift, but $3/cupcake doesn’t sound out of line for high quality cupcakes made with real butter.

I’ve talked to Sift. They quick freeze food to be delivered. he order would go out Monday, and not eaten until Friday. I thought of ordering cupcakes as well as their meringues. I’m just not a fan of freezing icing. CF, I don’t think 3-3.50 is high priced. I’m used to the $70+ charges, as Cambridge not inexpensive either.

I haven’t ruled out the Bundt cakes. I think individual things work better than a cake, or so son says. Son doesn’t eat sweets, but nice to feel remembered on one’s birthday.

This should be under “good Buy of Day” thread, but I happily lucked out at Nordstrom’s Rack. My son asked for short sleeved shirts in plaids. Blew me away, as he ONLY wore solid T’s and polos, and never liked insignias. I had checked the mall, and they were well into fall clothes. It occurred to me that Nordstom’s would send to the Rack, and there they were.

Deb, I looked at 350degrees. The one negative I see is that you have to order a dozen in same flavor, whether a cupcake or cakepop. Vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, lemon, or almond. I wish I could chose 4 flavors, 6 of each. Am I being too picky?

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope this info helps others who have kids in the SV area.
