No-audition BA Theatre programs that are easy to double major in? Currently thinking about teaching it. And preferably in the southeast! Thanks in advance

James Madison University in VA is non-auditioned for the Theatre concentration. A number of students double major. Some double major with another subject like English or History, and do the Secondary Education prep if they are interested in public school certification. You will find that at most non-auditioned BA programs it is easy to double major. Christopher Newport University, and Radford also in VA are other program to look at. I am sure you will get many other responses, particularly if you include more specific information, about your stats, size of school you are looking for, etc…

Thanks, I just started considering teaching it so secondary education certification could be the other major. And I didn’t post stats because I wanted a wide range of selectivity and whatnot so I could pick them out later.

Florida Southern College doesn’t require an audition to be a theatre major, but you can audition for their scholarship. And, in my opinion, their department is very good.

It may be administred slightly differently from school to school, I am not sure. At JMU students going for certification on the secondary school level major in a “hard” subject (like English, History, etc…) and then add the secondary education minor prep. JMU has a five year masters in education option. Students who want to be in the theatre major as well would double major, and do the secondary education minor prep. We have some students who know they want to teach who are in the theatre major only, and who plan on getting their masters in teaching after completing undergrad. Some also plan on teaching in private school, where certification is generally not needed. As you are compiling your schools check with each program about teacher certification procedures if this is something you think you want to pursue. Good luck!!
