Anybody see "Victoria" on PBS Masterpiece?

It was supposed to have premiered last night, but it’s not On Demand for some reason.

My On demand doesn’t have PBS. The only way to watch is through the PBS app.

I remember watching Downton Abbey, I thought, if I didn’t catch it on Sunday. I’m going senile.

Victoria was on PBS on Master Piece Theater in the time slot once held by Downton Abbey. A very good biography of Victoria is Becoming Queen Victoria: The Unexpected Rise of Britain’s Greatest Monarch by Katie Williams. It begins with King George II’s (America gained independence under his rein) scoundrel offspring, King George III and his vitriolic marriage to Caroline of Brunswick and the marriage, and subsequent death of Princess Charlotte, and the free for all that ensued. Really a good read. So much drama and fighting for position. It was a cut throat world.

I DVR’ed it last night and watched today. Last night’s episode was 2 hours. Try your On Demand again - sometimes I find shows don’t show up until 24 hours after the original broadcast.

You can also access it online: http://www.pbs.org/video/2365925930/

I watched it to see if I thought it good enough to watch next week. I’ll watch again!

OTOH, I’ll skip Mercy Street.

I was really ticked off because in order to show Victoria at 9:00 they moved Sherlock to 7:00 without publicizing that enough to reach me. I didn’t figure it out until 8:20. Then I watched the last 40 minutes of Sherlock and hated it intensely, so was glad I hadn’t watched the whole thing. Then we decided to watch Madame Secretary instead of Victoria. Sorry.

I stumbled across it last night and was immediately enchanted. It’s hard not to compare it to The Crown, which I actually think I like better (after only one episode of Victoria). But I’m a sucker for all things BRF, Jenna Coleman is mesmerizing in everything she does, and it’s Masterpiece. So I’ll definitely be watching.

Didn’t get to catch it due to my being out of the house for an all-day convention at the invitation of one of the organizers.

Will try to see if I can catch the first episode when I can.

King George II died well before the American Revolution which actually happened under George III. And Caroline of Brunswick was married to George IV.

I loved it and my husband even watched it with me, which was surprising. I plan to continue.

Wife and I enjoyed the first episode but we couldn’t help thinking that they are really “borrowing” from the immensely popular upstairs/downstairs theme from Downton Abbey and, of course Upstairs Downstairs. Lots of evil characters in the kitchen. Fun to watch and we’re getting a bit of a history lesson as well.

I am really enjoying it!

I enjoyed Episode 2.

Me too. As I have no TV, I’ve been watching it online at pbs.org.

Have yet to watch episode 3 of Sherlock, but I really have to say that I was disappointed in the first 2 episodes.

I’ve been watching it, but I must say that I think the movie from a few years ago “Young Victoria” starring Emily Blunt (and written by Julian Fellowes) did a better job of covering the same people and events.

I might have to check that out!
