Anyone else invited to Vision 2009?

That much I don’t know, but my fingers are crossed!

I don’t even know if I can go though, I’m so annoyed of my school’s ‘at most, three excused absences’ rule. I can’t go to this if I want to go to other colleges’ scholarship finalist weekends. Urghhh.

Does anyone know if not going would hurt me in any way? Either way, I’m going to try my hardest to go…

by the way, congrats collegebound_91 :]

wish i got invited :(

Sucks to be an ED student, you don’t get Visions :(

Some ED students are also invited!

Question. I was admitted ED but also invited to Visions? Should I still go even if I have already visited before?

Definitely! It’s meant to get a taste of Rice, even if you’ve already been.

Is Asian considered a URM? Are there any Asians that got invited to this program?

^Noooooo, Asians are not URMs. While I don’t know the answer to your second question, I’m going to take a stab at it and say that probably no Asians are invited.

I’m not totally sure, but I think LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) applicants might also be eligible for Vision. I haven’t heard specifically whether or not Rice includes them on their diversity weekend, but I know that at Columbia they did. Because of this, I was one of like two white people at Columbia’s diversity day. I was not invited to Vision last year, but I got a likely letter from Rice.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that it might be possible for LGBT Asian or Caucasian applicants to be invited to Vision. Not sure, though.

Oh, and ED admitees are eligible too.

And I’ll probably be a host for Vision! Yay prospies!!!

how would they know if a student is LGBT? I am but I dont think I made it known on my app. And the accepted ED students are invited because I’m one!

Do you think it will hurt my chances if I can’t make it?

no of course not. You’re basically almost accepted anyway, deciding not to come would not hurt it.

That’s somewhat of a relief though I am dying to go, I’ve tried to make some sort of deal with my school by means of the counselors. Would this visit in any way help my chances for scholarships?

Not going to Vision will not affect acceptance, and I highly highly doubt that not going would affect scholarships. It’s silly that your school has that rule. At mine, you could miss 8 days in a quarter without consequence, given you could keep your grades at a passing level. I think I used all eight the last quarter of senior year visiting colleges.

Yeah, it’s completely bogus since it’s meant to make students stay in school so they can succeed and go to college…yet they won’t let me visit a college I like.

i just got my invitation today…already registered
btw how does the reimbursement work?

i just registered too!!!
u have to bring ur flight recipt(with the price on it) once you get there. Then you get reimbursed by mail after you leave

im so excited!

how many people usually go!

155 attended last year.

whoa thats a good sized crowd!

Hey! i’m new

is the “additional information” link that was sent in the congrats email not working for anybody else?
