Anyone else still thinking about Miley?

Let’s forget Miley for a minute.

Was Gypsy Rose a feminist?

Wrong. I have never read any theory in a classroom where someone explained it to me. In my day they only taught dead white males. Also, I am so old I can only keep something in my head about five minutes.

ETA: I have to go google Gypsy Rose because I can’t remember LOL

But basically it is the issue of whether prostitution should be legal or illegal that is giving me pause with FEMEN after a quick google

You aren’t fooling me ahl, socratic though you are.

While you’re looking at new talent, check out Lily & Madeleine (I don’t have a link but you can find on youtube) - two teenage sisters from Indiana, little / no vocal training, who have “old soul” voices. To keep it slightly on topic, the older sister is, I think, a freshman at Indiana University.

Speaking of Karen Elson…

I don’t think he’s much of a feminist, but when it comes to covering Jolene, Jack White shows Miley who’s the boss:

I don’t know if any of these young women are feminists, but they are certainly not singers of any real talent or discipline. Compare them with Ella Fitzgerald, Kiri Te Kanawa, Diana Krall, Enya, or Julie Andrews–just to name a few genuine talents across the spectrum–and the difference is clear.

Lady GaGa went to CTY. :)

Actually, I have to amend my answer. I couldn’t still be thinking about Miley, 'cause I never wuz.

My wife woke up in the middle of the night and sang “Don’t sit under apple tree.”

Miley? Yucch. No talent.

Lady Gaga on the other hand, although quite strange, I like.

Gypsy Rose Lee was a feminist, imo.
Although she was from seattle & while I remember her as a colorful burlesque performer not an exotic dancer as we think of them today, I havent read any of the books that might shed more light on her story.

She was a feminist! She wrote books.

The best book about her is her own book. The musical is based on her memoir.
