Your SAT score seems to indicate you have massive grade inflation at your school. I know the SAT score isn’t a great predictor, but I feel like it’s an OK litmus test for how you might compare to the engineering major sitting next to you.

Your low SAT score is holding you back big-time. I think it’s lower than the average SAT of the school as well. Just cross your fingers and wait it out.

@ kp2013… yes i had to do a separate application for civil engineering major. it had some essays on it and asked some questions. i think they asked for stuff i’ve done like extra curricular(but i’m not sure about the extra curricular)… also when the cal poly pomona rep came to our school she said “you eligibility index is very competitive for us…but i don’t know about SLO…” …

@CalDud… there is no grade inflation at my school…It’s just i was and esl student and have been to this country for only 3 yrs… if you were to go to another country and were asked to learn a whole new language all over, then how would you do on an admission test? a test that many native americans struggle with… i’ve been working very hard man… i need this acceptance although i’ve gotten into schools already… Pomona seems a good choice to me…

a question though… why do applicants with low scores have to wait for their admission decision???

Transfer student and checking today, says I was provisionally admitted. Yet my initial transcript is due on the 20th and I never sent it since I thought they would ask after you were accepted. Oh well, time to wait for UC’s.

@farzzin2012 I totally get it bro, I’ve also been in this country for barely more than 2 years so I understand what you’re saying.

My stats are also not that great (SAT 1190, GPA 4.1) but fortunately I did get in for Electrical Eng. so I really think you have good chances, just keep in mind that Civil Eng. is more impacted than EE so it seems like it will all depend in how you did in those essays…

One of my counselor told me once that colleges actually take it into account when students just came from another country, and that’s probably why I got admitted.

Anyways I wish you luck and look forward to see you in the fall ;-)

Kudos to you for learning a second language and excelling in high school. CalDud, does make a valid point that engineering at CPP will be very competitive even after you get in. SATs are not everything, so I am glad the college of engineering gives you the opportunity to expand on your qualifications. Not many CSUs give applicants that much attention and just admit the ones with the highest scores.

The long wait is just a reality on the state of things. I think after this scary economy over the past few years, people are wanting a dependable, relevant and affordable education that CPP has been offering for decades now. Check out how the scores have gone up in recent years. SAT scores have gone up over 130 over the past 6 years.

Also remember that the minimum SAT requirement for Engineering is 550 math and 500 eng i thing, so the fact that they contacted you to know more about you is a good sign.

@ obravo and petrarch… hey guys thanks for your support and hope … well here is the thing: my thing is not really civil engineering. it is Aerospace and Mechanical … civil engineering is my third choice. when i was picking my major i though aero and mech might be more impacted so i put civil eng not knowing that civil is actually the most impacted major… i regret doing that but if i get in that’ll be actually good. … i hope i get my acceptance notification soon… :)

Has anyone paid the enrollment confirmation deposit? I’m still waiting on other colleges before accepting to pay for CPP since CPP is a back-up school for me.

Reading through the posts from last year in this thread, someone wrote that acceptances usually come out on Fridays. Anyone know if this is true or not? Thanks!

I think its time I jumped on the worrying bandwagon and say what everyone else is saying.

I haven’t heard anything back and would love to hear any insight that admitted students might have.

How would this stand up as an ME major?

GPA: 3.3 (CSU Weight)
SAT: 590 Math
630 Reading
670 Writing (I know, omitted)
Around 8 honors/AP classes

Upon research, they calculate the eligibility index through this formula:
SAT I Scores: (GPA)1 x 800 + SAT I Total = EI

No where here does it even begin to consider course rigor. Could this be right?

Is the decision timing system based on major or location?
Is there genuine cause for concern?

If so, do you believe that there is any merit in calling and asking an admissions person how things are going in that field, if my application has been reviewed yet, etc. I would just like to get back to my calculus and stop the constant worrying of what’s going to happen!

To comsciguy91
My csu gpa : 3.5
Act score :21 ( I know it’s super low )
Do I have a chance of getting accepted ?
I’m so worried, most of my friends got accepted
What’s your act or sat score ?

Pomona does rolling admissions, and it’s still somewhat early. I know a few people were admitted as late as mid-August last year but I wouldn’t expect too much after mid-april. I think April 15 was supposed to be the last day of admissions according to people who called Pomona and posted what they were told here, but people were slowly admitted well beyond that date.

I was admitted last year as a transfer biology major.

I didn’t get my acceptance until April 9th. Hang in there guys and be patient. I know this totally sucks and I was stressing majorly this time last year, but there’s nothing you can really do aside from torturing yourself.

The beginning of April was when a bunch of my fellow transfer students found out. It seems like FTF’s are notified a little bit earlier than the transfers. (this is pure speculation, FTF’s don’t freak out if you haven’t heard yet)

Deep breaths guys, you’ll get through this. Personally I would recommend focusing on other stuff to take your mind off this. They are SO SLOW.

Also, if any potential bio majors or transfers have any questions, hmu.

I applied to an impacted major (psychology) my application status said - received , then pending, and now “eligible for consideration”. My GPA is almost a 3.0. I also will be receiving a few AA’s from Chaffey college and an AA-T from Mt. Sac. I’m hoping since I will be getting the AA-T in psych from Mt. Sac they might consider me local…who knows. Good luck everyone!
