<p>I’m in the market for a new set, and I can’t for the life of me figure out which are reliable and clean well. I’ve checked web sites and of course, Consumer Reports, but when I read reviews of actual consumers seems like none of them come out well. I was set for a Whirlpool Cabrio and even though CR thought they were great people wrote that they’re unreliable with poor performance. If I talk to a salesperson they’re just going to give me shtick so any feedback much appreciated!!</p>

<p>I love my Electrolux front loaders, on pedestals. Had them 18 months and still love them.</p>
<p>I have the Whirlpool Duet front loaders. Can’t say I’m particularly in love with them.</p>
<p>I love my Samsung front loaders- no pedestals.</p>
<p>I am finally getting around to replacing my 12 year old supposedly “top rated” Consumer Reports Kenmore machine which I liked for capacity and how well it cleaned, but disliked for the way the dispensers never drained properly despite numerous service visits and the fact that the whole top lid started to rust. Friends and reviews (not just Consumer’s!) seem to like the Samsung and JD Power says it’s the most reliable: </p>

<p>I have a Miele Super Large Capacity washer which replaced my fiasco “Collapso” (great idea, bad implementation) about 2 years ago. Like it a lot! We went with a storage pedestal, but frankly, I really do not use it for storage since our laundry room has ample storage space. The washer can handle anything from a single silk nightie to 2 king-size down blankets (actually tried both scenarios with great results :)). Can’t wait until the “Collapso” dryer finally croaks to replace it with a Miele… 
A friend has a washer/dryer pair by Electrolux, and likes them, too!</p>
<p>Also have the Miele and love it.</p>
<p>We recently bought a Maytag Centennial top loader set for a second home. Have only used it a few times but am satisfied thus far. I like the water level sensor in the washer.</p>

<p>I love my Frigidaire Front Load washer and dryer. They stack so I save space. The washer and dryer work so much better than the 1980-ish units they replaced…</p>
<p>My front loading Whirlpool washing machine gets a musty smell. It does help to wipe it dry and leave the door open after washes, and putting bleach into my white loads also helps, but I never had this problem with my top loaders.</p>

<p>Hmm, it does seem like a lot of complaints from the Gardenweb people (who are usually in the know about these things) on the Samsung, but maybe every brand has its detractors. I’ll have to do some more HW!</p>
<p>We went with the Fisher and Paykel (sp?) set - very humorous, actually. They are a New Zealand based company and the engineering is a bit different than usual so they sound really funny. The washer bumps and bangs every few minutes in the cycle to get the clothes off the sides, I think. The spin is so fast it’s like you have a rocket getting ready for take off. Nonetheless the balance is great so there’s far less shaking of the house (our washer is upstairs). The drier is muucchhhh faster than our old Whirlpool set. I’d recommend 'em.</p>

It’s a really BASIC top loader, 4. something capacity that I found on the HomeDepot site the day my 18 year old dinosaur died a few weeks ago. Lives in my decidedly dark, damp basement, so no fancy models need apply.
It cost less than $400 free delivery, tax and installation. If it works for 10 yrs, I will call it a success.</p>

Weighs the load and uses only amount of water needed. FAST cycles. Clothes are practically dry when done spinning, so they dry in record time in dryer.
I figure I will save on water and gas for the dryer.</p>
<p>I guess if you wait long enough between models, the new one WILL seem miraculous!!</p>

<p>I am very happy with my new Maytag Bravos washer and dryer. I have only had them since the beginning of March though. They are huge, the washer is a top loader (5 cu. ft. washer) and the dryer vent is in the door (unlike the whirlpool cabrio) which has the dryer vent on top. I didn’t want a front loader due to space issues.</p>
<p>Has anyone had experience with those combo washer/dryers? I need either a stackable washer/dryer or one of the combo machines for a guest house.</p>
