Anyone see the movie, Hereafter?

Knowing that most of the critics did not like this movie and that it was going to be very slow moving, I went to see it yesterday afternoon. I went alone (because I didn’t want to hear anyone’s complaints about it afterward). It was simply a subject, movie director (Eastwood) and actor (Damon) that I find interesting. Other than the disruptions caused by the elderly couple who sat behind me and felt the need to comment too loudly every once in a while to each other, I liked the movie. I know that I am really not much of a movie critic because I just love going to the movies, period. It was slow but I was prepared for that. The opening sequence was incongruously action/emotion packed to the rest of the movie, but I was prepared for that. I just liked it. I liked the characters and the resolution. I liked the acting and I liked the direction. Anyone else see it with an open mind?

No one else saw this yet?

Please, no spoilers! DH and I will see it this weekend. I will let you know what I think.

I don’t go to the movies very often. We usually wait for the DVD to be released. It’s so much more enjoyable to watch a good movie on our comfy sofa in my soft t-shirt and sweat pants, with a nice glass of cabernet.

I was hoping this movie would be worth seeing.

Both A.O. Scott and Roger Ebert think it’s excellent:

I saw it and liked it very much. European pacing. No problem for me but I can see how some would think it’s too slow.

Old Clint is my hero…he makes terrific films and he’s 80!! Who would have thought.Dirty Harry would go to this…

I liked Ghost Writer too and that was slow to develop.

I see many movies in the theater. Yeah, the sweat pants and cabernet thing have their appeal, but only the theater and huge screen transport me so I forget my own time and place. (A great book does this too.)

I have seen so many movies in the theater, and a tuition payment is due soon, so I am trying to economize. Probably lose the battle on this one and go see it.

I agree that Eastwood is a wonderful director and I love Matt Damon.

I saw Hereafter this past weekend and really enjoyed it. Didnt know from the ads and promos that this was basically a love story, though a rather unusual one. Guess it made more sense to promo it as some mystical supernatural thing than as a love story for gown ups, which is what it actually is. Yes, slow at times, but I found it worth sticking with and ultimately rewarding.

Interstingly enough I took the my two teenage boys to see it, forewarning them that it wasnt going to be your typical Clint Eastwood movie. Mirabile dictu, they both liked it a lot. Who woulda thunk?

^^^^Yep, just when you think you can predict their behavior with reasonable accuracy, they remind you that you can’t.

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Beautiful cinematography too. I love Easwood’s work.

Five stars - two thumbs up.    :)
