I didn’t think I would like it, but I was surprised. Actually, I probably shouldn’t have been surprised, because I pretty much like everything Terrance Howard does. I love how they tackle homophobia in the Black community. I find the story lines to be very believable. In addition to the actual show, the music is really good too.
I’m watching. I started watching largely because of Taraji Henson, who is a fantastic actor. This is such a different role for her but she is carrying it so well. Some of the soap opera-ish storylines are a little annoying and I’d like to smack the youngest son but overall, I’m enjoying it and the music, as you mentioned, is a nice addition. One thing that bothers me, though, is that both Taraji and Terrance are too young to be portraying the parents of Jussie Smollett who plays Jamal, let alone Trai Byers who is Andre.
I watched the first three episodes. Turned off by the cussing, but it’s entertaining.
@alwaysamom Yes, sometimes it gets a little soap opera-y(lol), but I still like it. And yes, I would like to drop kick that youngest son! I dont necessarily think they are too young to play their parents though. I assume Andre’s character is in his late 20’s and Jamal in his mid 20’s. Based the storyline, Cookie and Lucious started out very young, so if they had kids beginning at age 17-18, they could conceivably have kids that old.
Me, I love cussing. I missed it and only DVR’d the last couple episodes. I was hoping to find them online to watch but I think it is only Hulu plus which I don’t have.
@brownparent, I missed the first few episodes too, so I watched them on Amazon Prime. They were 1.99 an episode, but worth it
Tks, I will think about that…
I meant their actual ages. They would have had to start a lot earlier than 17 or 18, since they’re only 12/11 years older than Trai and 14/13 years older than Jussie. Details like that always bother me. ![]()
@partyof5 advice for the future. NEVER pay to watch a show online. Tons if websites put them up for free a few hours after the episode airs and you don’t need to download anything. There are websites like couchtuner and projectfreetv. Save your money
@calicash,thats good to know thanks!
@alwaysamom, I get your point, but since Taraji could easily play someone in her 30s or 40’s, its easy enough to believe. Im assuming the sons are definitely playing characters younger than their actual age, which is also easy enough to believe. I get your point though.
I LOVE the music on this show!!!I am going to be in serious withdrawal when this goes off!
I’m a fan! It’s obviously over the top, but I love Terrence Howard, Taraji, and Jussie. Kareem is incredibly annoying, and represents everything I dislike about his style of music. Jamal is fantastic.
I used to like Terence Howard, but after the abuse allegations surfaced, I can’t watch him.
His 2nd wife got a restraining order against him in 2013, which in grown up terms , doesn’t seem that long ago.
Ugh, I didn’t know about that. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
