Anyone watch The Closer? Need Advice

H saw a few episodes of this show on a flight a few weeks ago, and said it was very entertaining. I am thinking about getting him one of the seasons on DVD for a Christmas gift. The reviews on Amazon for every season are really good, so I don’t know whether I should start with season 1 or with the most recent season (6, I think), or some other season . . . Anyone who watches this show have any advice?

I think it depends on which episodes he saw…

I used to watch it- I would start with the first season or at least one of the earlier ones.
Since it is an ensemble cast it helps to understand past story lines I think.

I especially like the episodes where Amy Sedaris plays Fritz’s psychic sister. ;)

^^^^Agree^^^^^

It isn’t good enough to get as a gift - it gets old very fast. Your husband probably likes the blonde star of the show - mine does too.

I really enjoy this show, DH or DD bought me a season on DVD for Mother’s Day, it’s still in the wrapper. Keep in mind the series is ending in a couple of months (new episodes start sometime soon, when those are done, the series is done). I haven’t enjoyed the most recent episodes as much as the earlier ones…

Love The Closer. Start with Season 1. We own most of the first seasons on DVD - at least, I think we still do. Oldest daughter and her boyfriend got hooked on the series and I would be hard pressed to put my hands on DVDs quickly.

The Closer as such ends this season … but really morphs into Major Crimes. I’m hoping the transition won’t be painful. I do intend to keep watching.

[As ‘Closer’ ends, ‘Major Crimes’ begins](<a href=“As 'Closer' ends, 'Major Crimes' begins”>As 'Closer' ends, 'Major Crimes' begins)

The Closer is one of the best shows on TV. Reruns are shown on a daily basis on TNT, check your afternoon listings and tape them. The first season is great as far as introducing the characters, etc, but in my opinion, the best season was the one where Chief Brenda Lee gets married to FBI agent Howard. Brenda’s parents are so funny!

Her parents are a HOOT!

I loved Barry Corbin on Northern Exposure- Did you know he is in the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame?

If he has only watched a few recent episodes, then I would say get him season 1. But either way, these shows are almost self-contained and your husband would enjoy them regardless of which season you get him.

+1. Maybe her parents can adopt Captain Raydor so they can move on to the new show?

OP…I’d go with the first season. Love the show!

I’ve come to appreciate Captain Raydor this season. I’m glad that the writers have given her an expanded time on screen.

My favorite episodes are the ones where Provenza and Flynn get into trouble.

I enjoy the Brenda Lee charactor, especially with her parents. And the Provenza/Flynn troubles are a blast. I’ll give Major Crimes a try, we’ll see how it develops.

I do enjoy the Rizzouli and Isles that was following The Closer. Loved the books, enjoying the television show (although they are only minimally related).

I am also a big fan of “The Closer” (it’s not “The Wire,” but nothing is.) I do not agree that it’s not “good enough” to buy as a gift or that it gets old fast. However, it does get repeated frequently on cable.

All of the seasons have been good. The earlier ones have a lot more character development, I think, but some of the latter ones are very powerful. (“Under Control” from this season, where a boy goes missing from the day camp where Lt Tao’s son works, was really good.) I really like some of the peripheral ccharacters, like Tao and Sanchez.
