What do you think? I want to like it more than I do.
It’s certainly interesting and I like the background into how the various shows developed. I don’t really care for the rapid and frequent time shifts. Love the dancing.
Fosse seems to be without appeal. Insecure, low energy. Is that just how Sam Rockwell is playing him, or is that how he really was? I’m comparing to Roy Scheider’s portrayal in All That Jazz. But because Fosse was involved in All That Jazz, is Scheider’s portrayal Fosse as he wanted to be portrayed instead of how he really was?
I’m watching mainly because All That Jazz was one of my favorite movies. Last weekend I rewatched after many years, it still holds up, the lead cast is amazing. I had forgotten how much the adorable daughter was a part of the movie! I was sad to see on IMDb it was her only movie role. Plus it made me cry just like years ago. Fosse Verdon is good, just not as great as that movie imho. Wow, Michelle Williams can dance and sing though. I also watched a clip of the Fosse Verdon dance from last night’s episode, spot on! I believe I read it was their one dance on screen together.
I auditioned for him many years ago. I was not his type dancer but he went out of his way to encourage me. That 2 minute exchange didn’t give me any insight into him, but I wouldn’t ever say low energy.
@eyemamom WOW! I’m VERY impressed.
Yes, I’m watching, I’m a huge dance fan. In fact last night I went on youtube to watch some Gwen Verdon videos and those of Fosse’s wife before Verdon.
I’m beyond impressed by Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell. Rockwell (the actor who can do EVERYTHING) is as usual excellent, but Michelle Williams – she’s downright transcendent as Verdon.
I haven’t seen it yet but will definitely watch. All That Jazz is also one of my favorite movies and I love Sam Rockwell. Thanks for the reminder.
I finally watched last week’s episode. Fosse comes off as such a creep that I feel guilty for having loved his choreography.
I’m enjoying it very much. Fosse was a mess of a man, but a creative genius nonetheless. I also loved All That Jazz (really should see it again), but I wouldn’t take Fosse’s portrayal of himself as worth much. I think Michelle Williams is doing amazing work in the show, but then she’s an amazing actress altogether. Her big street scene in Manchester by the Sea haunts me.
I also love All That Jazz. I’ve watched it multiple times.
Adore Ben Vereen. If I could go back in time and see any Broadway performance, it would be Ben Vereen in Pippin.
