I really love pomfret and want to know about it to make a final decision about where I go to school.
S23s school played Pomfret. After observing some schools with less than sportsmanlike behavior, Pomfret was our favorite school to visit when we were able to get to games there (it is closer to our house than S23 school so we were able to get to quite a few). Although their athletics were very competitive, they had stand-up coaches who knew when to play their bench players, the kids were humble and we really enjoyed sitting with the (also humble) parents.
Pomfret was at the end of our visit plans. My son had already fallen in love with another school and felt “visited out” so we ended up not visiting before making our final application list but my son has mentioned that had he not gone where he did, he thinks that Pomfret would have been his choice. He was a 3 sport captain so had a lot of opportunities to talk to other kids and coaches after games. He liked that everyone seemed laid back and friendly and that there wasn’t one “type” of kid that played sports there.
Very familiar with the school through friends of kids attending and teachers at Pomfret. It seems like their advising system plus college advising is very proactive, very engaged, very intentional… their outing club seems very cool as well.
@KateKara24 - any insight for this poster?
I don’t have current insight on Pomfret-I went there though and loved my experience! (Graduated almost 30 years ago though!)
- head of school is retiring. Next year is last
- moving away from traditional letter grades
- very casual dress code
- some athletics are extremely competitive. Others less so. If a serious athlete, do your diligence on coach and be clear on expectations
- I’m not sure college counseling is as differentiated as previous poster suggests
- it’s rural. Like really rural
- lots of electives. So many can’t do all interesting ones. (Forensics, astronomy, etc)
- building new science center open next fall
