My schedule for senior year is looking like this:
AP Lit. (yearlong)
Journalism (yearlong)
Public Speaking + Economics (semester each)
Spanish 4 (yearlong)
AP Gov. (yearlong)
AP Psych. (yearlong)
AP Calc. AB (yearlong)
I’m also going to be President of KEY Club, JSA VP, NHD Secretary, NHS VP, and Math Club VP; I’m also a Journalism editor.
Aside from those, I do around four to six hours of community service a week, but they’re so routine they haven’t messed up my academic life at all.
I took one AP sophomore year (APWH), and am taking four this year (APUSH, APES, AP Stats, and AP Lang.). I’ve been handling the workload fine, and I’ve been better this year than last year.
AP Lit at our school apparently has a high workload, but the teacher is leaving so that may or may not change. AP Psych is apparently just reading guides, Journalism is basically a study hall period, Spanish 4 is honestly a joke (but it gets me 5 credits at 99% of the colleges in the state), Public Speaking and Economics are light, AP Gov has less homework than Psych, and I’m afraid of AP Calc.
My current dillema –
I can’t pick a science, because Physics at our school is hardcore, and there is an Honors option that works with the local community college to get us college credits which is even worse, and I got an A in Physics Lab Methods in sophomore year, but that was because the teacher was nice and taught well. The current teacher for Physics and Honors Physics is this crazy guy who just rants and “cares more the learning than the grade.” I don’t mind the last part, but he screwed over a lot of students this year by inputting two months’ of assignments and tests an hour before grades were due for first semester, and didn’t curve anything.
However, I’m unsure of whether or not I can handle AP Bio. This year, no one got an A in the class (around 20 kids in the class) first semester, but the old teacher is coming back from maternity leave, so it should be a lot better; however, it’s still a lot to handle, but I don’t know whether or not I can take on 5 AP’s.
Should I take Physics with crazy guy and work my rear off to save my GPA, or should I take the risk with AP Bio and deal with another AP Exam and try to keep my GPA??
