AP Biology-How to Score a 5, including which Review Book? Essay Help-2008 Topics?

cuz when I see the rubrics they look FOR SPECIFICS AND NOT GENERAL, WHICH SUCKS, BUT I ASSUME MOST PEOPLE DO BAD ON ESSAYS…

also which practice tests are the BEST? and which categories should I study the MOST aka most people do bad on these often?

also, what are your classes/teacher/student’s predictions for essays!!?!! lol seriously

idk why ppl keep asking for predictions, none of my teachers predict anything about essays. i mean just b/c a concept shows up one year does not mean that it couldnt come the next year…

all i can say is that usually one frq is about a lab and know phylums pretty well

thats a good idea Dankstarburst…

Amandeep1: You need to calm down lol you are more nervous and worried than me. Truly I think we will do fine if we study and are prepared. I know the test is curved and if we practice and have done well in class, then we will do well…hopefully lol.

Relax a little.

Study Tips: I have made a notecard for each Major Topic from the class syllabus/College Board-This includes major notes, key concepts, vocabulary terms, and general processes like neg. feedback with examples…anyways I used a jumbo note-card to fit it all, and have 1 note-card for each chapter/major topic. (last year this helped me in AP US a lot on the essays, so hopefully it will help in BIO)

next tip: Review the material in review books, ask your teacher for help on topics you don’t understand, take practice tests and practice essays…

and we will be fine…

futuredr08, i know i am really nervous.lol

also i noticed they do ask for specifics…I always use generals and get away with it lol but i might get screwed over the free essay response.

well said :)

What about Barron’s? Is it any good?

Are there any topics you can skip? Like animal behavior? Cliffs says it only shows up on like 1% of the questions.

I see animal behavior every so often on my practice exams. I haven’t read the chapter in the textbook but from what I see it looks like just a few vocab terms to memorize (imprinting, instinct, associative learning, habituation, etc), so its not too hard.

I have the same question as Olive-Tree. Is Barron’s similar to Cliffnotes, in regards to being good study material for getting a 5 on the AP? Thanks.

I personally have barrons and an ebook copy of cliffsnotes. i like barrons a lot. the information is organized very well and is very detailed.

study tips: Relax, review, be confident in yourself

What I Do: I have a notecard (jumbo size) for each chapter/main topic that includes key concepts, vocab, main processes, summaries

This can help you review major concepts for the essay…it helped me greatly for apush

see, I dont like Barrons because its way too in depth, you don’t need to KNOW ALL OF BIO to score well, but of course Barron will be good if you want to know every single detail

for reviewing, I like Princeton Rev-they keep it concise, but I also have an E-book of cliffs notes-and everyone says the Cliffs is the BEST for reviewing, so I should start Cliffs!

also any classes so far, not done with the material- we have like 10 more chapters to go including rest of plants and ALL of ecology, my teacher doesn’t know how to plan perfectly…

to me, cliffs seems to have the same, if not more details in comparison to barrons

well, i use the big green Campbell’s. Barron’s is a GREAT supplement for that, as it helps refresh some aspects that cliffs basically skips over. I got Cliffs, but i found that some of teh info was too basic for my liking, so i got Barron’s as well. Go with what works for you.

personally, i find barron’s a bit confusing for self-studying. they ignore a lot of the basic material and terms and jumps around in a chapter.

what are 2008 possible essay topics not tested in last 2 years so most likely this year?!!

i heard there are 2 related to human evolution and/or organ systems?

Please not human evolution…

amandeep1:

where did you hear this…i really want to pass

i’ve read it somewhere on a ap bio website

i wouldn’t believe it 100% but its better to be prepared
