Guidelines:
Integration by parts: dv should be most complicated for integration… u is what’s left over

u derivative should be simpler than u, dv is what’s left over

int sec^3 x dx
dv = sec^2x
u = sec x

for dv, both can be integrated, but, neither is “simpler” when derivative is taken for u. I’m wondering do both guidelines have to be satisfied when choosing dv and u. Should I just memorize what is suggested to be chosen for dv and u like x^2 ex vs a arctanx?
